SOURCE: icemaker not making ice
First thing to check is to see if the optics are working properly. This is the red flashing light on right hand side of freezer wall. Close the flipper door, be sure not to block the beam, and the light should go to solid red. If it does then the optics are ok. If it continues to blink then that is your problem. If optics check ok then pull ice maker out and remove the white plastic cover. It just pulls off. Look at the center of the gear wheel and see if one of the plastic tabs is either broken or if they are sort of twisted and touching eachother. If any of these things with the gear have happened then that module will need to be replaced along with the ice maker thermostat. If your not sure how to replace these parts then just replace the whole ice maker. That is much easier and not much more costly.
After changing the parts or the ice maker out follow these steps to start the ice maker thru a cycle. 1. Remove the ice maker from the cradle but leave the harness connected. Remove the front cover from the module. Unplug the refrigerator. Get a small jumper wire with bare ends and jump T and H on the module, leave the jumper in and set the ice maker on the shelf. Close the door. Now plug the refer back in and wait 30 seconds. Open the door and the ice-maker should be cycling. Remove the jumper, put the module cover back on and set it back in the cradle. The fill should take place when the ejector blades reach the 12:00 position. Follow these steps exactly in order

At bottom hinge of freezer is the water line to door. Undo connection in line. It may be a quick connect. To undo push in on one end flange to release, and pull out line. Put bowl under end from under refrigerator and make sure doors are closed. Now push water dispenser and see if water comes out line. If it does, the line is frozen in the door. They had some models that had air leaks in freezer door. This causes insulation to freeze and water line freezes. Push in on inside of freezer door and see if it sounds like snow crunching. If it does it's probably frozen. Also peel door seal back a bit and see if is held on by numerous screws. If it is, it may be one of them that freezes. Call GE. They may still have the program going where you get 2 new doors free. Give them your model and serial numbers.
SOURCE: Icemaker won't dispense whole cubes, only chopped ice
Hello chitwnchk1
Welcome to Fixya,
You said,It chops ice when dispensing but won't just dispense whole cubes.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
1. If the cubes dispense, but not whole cubes, there is not a enough water pressure.
2. r there is a restriction in the water line to the ice maker.
3. OR the fridge may not be level.
4. Is there a water filter and has it been Changed in the past 6 months?
Here are 4 reasons mentioned in the repair manual.
Shutoff arm in the off position
Ensure the shutoff arm
is down and not in the raised position. If in the raised the position,
the ice maker is in the off position and will not cycle.
Faulty Harvest Thermostat
There is a thermostat
inside the ice maker that will close when the ice maker mold reaches the
proper temperature. If the thermostat is not closing, the ice maker will
not cycle.
Freezer To Warm
The ice maker will not cycle if the temperature in the freezer in not below 12 degrees. Ensure proper temperature in freezer.
No water getting to ice maker
The water inlet valve is
the control device that allows water to enter the ice maker. It is
energized during the last 5-8 seconds of the harvest cycle. During this
5 to 8 second period, there should be 110v across the two wires
connected to the valve . If there is power supplied to the valve and
the valve does not open to allow water to flow, the valve is defective.
However,
if power is being supplied to the valve and water is flowing through it
freely, it could be that you water supply line or inlet tube have
frozen solid. These can be thawed with warm water or a hair dryer.
Let me know how it goes and what you found!
Thank You , Huuuum

If you have a steady blinking light when you open the door then the sensor is working. I these cases the problem is usually in a bad motor or thermostat in the icemaker. If you need I can give you instructions on how to change these parts.

The most likely cause is the water solenoid behind the fridge. Take an ohm meter and test across the two terminals and it should NOT ohm out (beep). If it does not ohm out I would replace the P.C. Board kit, emitter & receiver icemaker control
