Hi there,
No Cartridge will show on the display if the machine cannot recognize one of the cartridge or one of the ink is empty.
To make sure about the real issue unplug the mach from the power outlet then plug it back in after 10 seconds.
If the display show: "ink empty C" it means the cyan/blue needs to be replace. "ink empty M" it means the magenta/pink needs to be replace. "ink empty BK" it means that the black needs to replace. If the display shows "ink empty Y" it means that yellow needs to be replace.
Even if it looks like the cartridge is full, it really needs to be replace so that the machine will work again.
Hope this helps. Rate if it works. Thanks

I just replaced all my inks and it is still telling me to replace my cartridges i also turned it on then off

  1. Open the scanner.
  2. Press the cp_button_14.gif Stop button to move the cartridges to the replacement position.

Caution: Do not move the print head by hand; this may damage your all-in-one. Always press and release the cp_button_14.gif Stop button to move it
  3. Open the cartridge cover.
  4. Press down all the ink cartridges until they click into place to make sure they are properly seated.
  5. Close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place.
  6. Close the scanner.
  7. Press the cp_button_14.gif Stop button to begin charging the ink. This takes about 2 minutes.
When the On light stops flashing and remains on, ink charging is finished.

    Caution:
Never turn off the Epson Stylus CX while ink is charging or you'll waste ink.
If the ink light flashes, press the cp_button_14.gif Stop button and press down all the cartridges securely.
If you remove an ink cartridge for later use, protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the Epson Stylus CX with the label facing upward. Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port, making covers or plugs unnecessary, but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches. Do not touch the ink cartridge ink supply port or surrounding area, and do not store the cartridge upside down.

If you remove a low or expended ink cartridge, you cannot reinstall and use the cartridge.

How to change ink cartridges on an Epson CX 3800

Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Once you start replacing a cartridge you must complete all steps in one session.

1. Make sure the Epson CX printer is on.
2 Make sure the document cover is closed, then open the scanner
Caution: Do Not open the scanner when the document cover cover is open.
3. Press and release the " ink " button. The ink cartridge moves to the check position and the
" On " and " ink " lights flash. If one of the cartridges is low or empty, the printer moves the
cartridge to the _ink out mark.
Note: Don't hold down the " ink " button for 3 or more seconds or the printer starts cleaning the print head.
Caution: Do Not move the print head by hand; this may damage the printer, always press the ink
button to move it.
4. Press the " ink " button again
a. If more than one cartridge is low or empty, the next cartridge moves to the_ink out position.
b. If all of the empty or low cartridges have been identified, the print head moves to the ink
cartridge replacement position.
5. Open the cartridge cover.
6. Squeeze the tab at the back of the empty/low cartridge and lift it straight out.
7. Before you open the new ink cartridge package shake it four or five times, then remove it
from the package.
Caution: Do Not remove or tear the label on the cartridge; otherwise ink will leak.
Do Not touch the green chip on the front of the cartridge, this can damage the
ink cartridge.
8. Place the new ink cartridge into the cartridge holder and push it down until it snaps into
place.
a. Replace any other cartridges that need to be replaced.
9. Close the ink cartridge cover and press it until it clicks into place.
10.Close the scanner.
11. Press the " ink " button The print starts charging ink and the " On " light starts flashing. This
takes about one minute. When it's finished the " On " light stops flashing and remains on.
and the " ink " light goes out.
Caution: Never turn off the printer while the " On " light is flashing or you'll waste ink.
Note: If the " ink " light stays on ( not flashing ), the ink cartridge may not be installed correctly.
Press the " ink " button again and reinstall the ink cartridge until it clicks into place.

It tells me the cartridges are empty, then when i open the lid it says no cartridge! its not been used for a few months, and i refill them with generic refills...any thoughts? tried the switch off and on -...

Hello ,

Start by opening your ink cover and read the LCD screen; this will alert you as to which ink cartridge is not being recognized; make sure the cartridge that it is telling you is empty has been changed.

If the unit is still not recognizing the cartridge you have changed, follow the steps below.

  1. Unplug the power cord for the printer unit.
  2. Open the ink cartridge cover and remove all ink cartridges.
  3. Close the ink cartridge cover.
  4. Plug the power cord back in.
  5. Reinstall the ink cartridges.

Make sure that your ink cartridges are full and that they are genuine brother inks; refills or generic ink cartridges are not guaranteed to work properly.

Thanks,

Pat

Ink

If you don't have the cartridges seated properly you will get this message. Pull them and try again. Myself, I tried to save some money, and bought Brothers refilled ink cartridges. They wouldn't work, so only use new Brothers ink cartridges. Unplug the printer from the wall for it to recycle, don't use the power button. Good Luck
