Install the MP Navigator EX software located on the disc that came with the printer. If you don't have the disc, you can obtain the software on the Canon website.
Thanks so much. I'm all set. 'Old Marine' pointed out that the program I needed was the MP Navigator which was listed as 'Programs', not the 'Driver' and that got me to the Canon Download Library and that solved the problem.
Drivers, software, and manuals are available for download here. Be sure to download and install both the driver and the MP Navigator program (under software).
Yikes... This is common with electronics for some darned reason.
The power adapter that comes with the printer may need to be replaced. If this does not fix the issue.. then the power outage has shocked the device and it needs to be replaced.

What you need to do is go to the Canon driver downloads page and download the MP Navigator. I had the same problem becuse the disc that came with the printer doesn't work with Vista. You have to know which programs to download! You only need the MP Driver and the MP Navigator and all should work!
Try using the MP Navigator which comes along with the CD. Or if you lost the CD, you can try downloading it from any canon sites. One of them is http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0024911.asp just search for MP Navigator for your Operating system. Hope this helps
