I don't see a specific question being asked, but I assume you want to know how to be able to stop the answering machine and the fax machine from answering calls @ the same time.

The easiest solution would be to order another telephone line and use it for the fax machine.

The only other option would be to purchase a device that "listens" for the polling beep that fax machines make and, if it hears it, sends the call to the fax. If it doesn't hear it, the call is sent to the answering machine.

Here is an example:

Sharp plain paper ink jet fax ux-b750

to stop the fax automatically switching to fax mode you have to set it to manual to recieve calls and dissable the fax, there should be an auto/fax and call mode, therefore when someone calls it will go to your voicemail, but that means that you will not be able to recieve a fax. Normally auto mode, will first try the fax, if no fax is recognised it will switch to normal line ringer, then if no answer it should go to your voicemail if unanswered.

"no answer" on receive

If you are recieving faxes normal and you get this message once in a while its more likely someone is tring to call you via the phone or if you press the HOOK button and you press the GREEN start key the machine will go into recive and time out if it doesn't hear a fax tone within 30secs it will time out and give ypu this message.

Fax feature

You have to set the printer to pickup 2 rings higher than your answering machine. If the answering machine picks up on 4 the printer should pick up on 6.

I believe the menu should be Setup button - down arrow key until you see basic fax setup and press ok - down arrow key until you see rings to answer and press ok - change to 2 higher than answering machine.

Now you should receive faxes and calls!

Fax & Phone sharing the same line

I am not really familiar with your machine, but have worked on faxes for 20 years. Most models are fax, fax/tel, and tel, meaning it is either or, or a combination. The function you seek was on many models with a built in answering machine. As the machine answered, you said in your message to press start now, or leave a message.

I would say, use your *9* solution with phone while you are there, but switch it to fax mode when you leave. Any regular call coming in at that time will not get answered anyway, but faxes would automatically be received. I know it is an extra step, but that would work.

HP 7410 fax tone when answering machine starts

you can only have it set to fax or phone at a time; the computer does not know if it is a fax or phone call. Therefore if you are running your fax software it will treat all calls as a fax. You really need two phone lines, one for the fax and one for the phone.

What does "TAD" mean when it appears on the screen?

TAD is Telephone Answering Device. TAD mode is the only mode that can be used with an external telephone answering device (unless you are using a distinctive ring number for receiving faxes). Your telephone answering device must be connected to the jack on the fax machine (labeled "EXT" for USA). When someone dials your telephone/fax number (to send a fax or to speak to you), all the telephones (including the FAX) will ring according to the number of rings you set on the TAD. The Ring Delay setting is not recognized in the TAD mode. If you do not answer the call, the TAD will answer. As your outgoing message is playing, the Fax is in the background, silently listening for fax tones. If the FAX hears fax tones, it will automatically go into the receive mode. If the FAX does not hear fax tones, it remains silent, allowing the caller to leave a message. The above information is correct for a Brother fax machine. Is your fax automatically picking up the call or do you have to push a panel button to start the receive fax process? Perhaps the fax is already "in" your fax machine's memory and only needs a manual printout. Check the fax call log.
