How Install Compatible DVD Decoder?

HI,

1Go to the Microsoft website that features DVD decoders that are compatible with Windows XP (see Resources). Select a compatible DVD decoder from the list presented on the Web page, for example, CinePlayer DVD Decoder or Cyberlink PowerDVD SE (see Resources).

Follow the menu screens to either purchase the decoder or to buy the serial code needed for installing the decoder. Click on the download link when the link becomes active or appears on the Web page.

    • 3

Double-click the file once downloaded. Enter the purchased serial code if prompted. Follow the menu commands to install the DVD decoder into Windows XP. Close the installation window when completed by clicking the red "X" in the upper right corner. Restart Windows XP.

MY LAPTOP CAN'T READ MY TEAC DW224E DVD DRIVE. SAYS RIGHT DECODER IS NOT INSTALLED. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME? I CAN'T USE MY LAPTOP DVD DRIVE . IT IS A TE2300 LAPTOP XP

Windows XP requires you to install a separate MPEG2 decoder. This mean that you need a program like Cyberlink's PowerDVD or Intervideo's WinDVD. All laptops would have come with this, and and DVD drive also comes with this software.

How to detect the availability of a DVD decoder upgrade loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If you previously clicked Upgrade Later when the upgrade page appeared in the Help and Support DVD Troubleshooter, a desktop shortcut was created. To upgrade your DVD decoder program, double-click the desktop shortcut. If no desktop shortcut exists, follow these steps to determine whether there is an upgrade available for your DVD decoder:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type dvdupgrd /detect, and then press ENTER.
After you run the dvdupgrd /detect command, any detected DVD decoders are listed with either a "yes" or "no" to indicate that there is or is not an upgrade available from the manufacturer for both Microsoft Windows 98/95 and Microsoft Windows 2000 versions of the software. uparrow.gifBack to the top How to upgrade your DVD decoder loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If an upgrade is available for your DVD decoder program:

DVD Codec

Windows media player will play very few DVD's on it's own. It needs to work in conjunction with a decoder. You can find a decoder, ie... Power DVD, WinVid, InterVid, etc..., at Dell's support site or filehippo.com. I use Power DVD on mine with no problems. Also, the configuration that you have will not have a noticeable or any effect on videos. They will play fine, once you have a decoder.

My dvd re writer wont work

Well, when you insert a disc and go to My Computer then to the DVD drive itself, does it show that a disc is in the drive, if it does does and you open the drive does it show the contents of the drive! If so then you are having a software issue regarding the decoder! You can check out the following link: Microsoft explains DVD Playback in XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/bridgman02april15.mspx Also you can try this free codec site: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm If when you go to My computer an the disc does not come up in the drive or the drive doesn't show or anything like that you may be having problems witht the drive / configuration itself let me know how this works out regards, babb
