Make sure u can open the casing well to expose the interior parts without causing any damage. Then by close look at the processor area , that is where the heat sink is located. Normally the dell dimension 2400 has a green channel shaped structure that acts as a passage for the air that enters in and out for cooling the heat sink. It has a locking parts that slides into the casing back by slight pressing to the back of the casing just behind the processor area, be so observant to notice the locking parts. then the fan is just fixed behind that green " channel like" and its fixed on the rear side of the casing, 25275582-o0cuhlgwrl13okm3u3q5444d-5-0.jpg

the mail problem with those dells is the video card was not very good. you can go to dell and put in the tag number and download the drivers for it and that might help. the old dell was a xp machine and it might be the only drivers you can get for that. if you have upgraded to windows 7 there are not drivers for that in w7

you got drivers on dvd. find the dvd, and usually it's the one with dell logo. you have to install Drivers from that and your dell will Fly. You have to install: graphic card dvd, dell dvd, and audio drivers. also, check in control panel/system/hardware  if in front of system components there's a ? mark or !. install those things.

Here's the Microsoft Page for using Movie Maker on XP,

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/default.mspx

and here's the Download Site for Movie Maker XP,

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx

It's installed through Windows Update normally so you should just install every Windows XP Update available. Go to the Start Button>All Programs> Windows Update and click on it. Follow all the prompts and say yes or ok to everything.

Good Luck

The last guest left us hanging with, "easy fix" so, I ventured ahead to see what I could see by opening up my lcd, which was a puzzle in itself. After UNPLUGGING the monitor and removing the stand and the 4 obvious screws in the back, turn the monitor onto its back and placing your palms against one side of the monitor, and using your FINGER TIPS, gently pull back the plastic lip away from the LCD screen. Move along the lip, doing this a little bit at a time. You'll hear and feel it snap loose. Repeat on the remaining three sides. It may take a few rotations to free all the sides, doing a little at a time, so as not to put undo stress on the plastic that is not yet loose. The bottom lip from behind which lies the offending "on/off" button will not move as freely as the other sides because of the ribbon cord that attaches the circuit panel to the main body. So STOP pulling when you feel it become taught and carefully turn the monitor onto its face to complete the face's removal. Undo the cloth tape that secures the ribbon cable to the monitor. This will give you the necessary slack you need to do your dirty work. BTW, we're not disconnecting the ribbon cable from its connections- that would be bad - just remove that haphazardly placed piece of tape used to keep the thing snug and save it for when you're ready to close it back up. OKAY! There a four tiny screws that affix the green circuit board. You'll need a thin, jewelers type phillips head or a one from a synthe-sized tool set to remove these. Now, if your issue is like mine, you'll see when you again carefully remove the circuit board, that the on/off button has cracked off of the piece that holds it. This is why the button remained stuck in one positon when it was depressed. Re-align it so that it is uniform to the other buttons and place a few small strips of cut electrical tape to hold it in place to the end where it broke off. Crazy glue or the like won't give the button the flexability it needs and will probably just crack again. What the tape (I layered 3 strips) will do, once the circuit board is scewed back, is allow the button to return to position after it's pushed. I just did this and so far, after a dozen on/offs it's still working. Good luck. Go have a beer.

You need to reset it to factory defaults. Several youtube videos can help you (I have exact printer but book is put away). Have you done anything to it lately with ink cartridges and the like? may need to get some mineral spirits, take out ink cartridges, and clean contacts with swab. Try the reset first, though.

it can be one of 2 things:
1. if the battery charge light is all that comes on then you motherborad is busted.
2. if the power light turns on without the screen showing anything then you will need to replace the screen, but first connect it to an ordinary PC monitory and see if it works from there before changing anything.

Your computer will need some upgrades. This dell has a max memory of 2 gigabytes. The memory type is pc2700. You need to install a PCI video card. Newegg.com has a decent one for about 40 bucks. 2 gigabytes of memory should cost about 70 bucks. If the dell doesnt have a DVD drive you will have to get one too. <less than 30 bucks> Then and only then will this computer be able to play games or play videos.

Lack of video signal is usually 1 of 3 things, Power supply (PSU), Video card or Motherboard (mobo).
Situation #1: If you get a blank screen and no sounds or movement it either indicates that the power supply unit (PSU) has failed or something on the motherboard has failed, preventing normal startup.
Situation #1A: You might get some power lights coming on and some fans spinning but the video output does not happen, usually indicates that motherboard or PSU is going out or has gone out. Occasionally it will be due to a weak (damaged) PSU.
Situation #2: If you get sounds (normal Windows startup sounds) and lights but nothing on the screen then it indicates a failed or loose video card.
Always try a different power outlet that you know is working. (Eliminate the easy stuff first!)
If it is out of warranty, try opening up the case, with the power off, of course. If you have Sit #2 and have a video card that you can reseat (take out and then put back in) try that. If it is onboard video then you may have to buy a video card for it.
Also take this time to inspect the capacitors on the motherboard (they look like tiny soda cans) and check for tops that are bulging, swelling or leaking anything. Capacitors should be perfectly flat on top. If you find these then your motherboard is bad (well technically the capacitors on your motherboard are bad). The bad caps will need replacing to fix (not a job for an amateur). If it passes the visual inspection then it may just be your power supply is bad. Notice that a bad PSU does not mean you are getting no power, just not enough to start and run the computer.
A few years ago a company stole the recipe for making capacitors and started making their own capacitors at really cheap prices. The stolen "recipe" was not complete and not correct so these caps started failing after about 2-3 years of use. Emachines, DELL and Gateway were the computer companies most affected by the bad capacitor issues, although any of the big companies could have the same problem. These bad caps also affected power supply makers.
Do you hear anything else during startup, beeps, fans or drives spinning, lights on the front or back of computer flashing or lit up? Do you hear the Windows starting sound?
Let us know more then we can troubleshoot better. Do you have the 4 diagnostic (A,B,C,D) on the rear of the machine? What is the front power light on the CPU doing?
