My ps3 will not play discs. and when it does it only plays them for a certain amount of time and then it just stops and the only thing that works is the ps button but if you quit game or turn off the system it doesn't work so you have to turn the console off at the plug to get to get it working again. the problem seems to have come ever since i've been playing cod black ops online and it would freeze ingame and i would have to turn it off and when i turned it off it would beep 3 times. i hear this is a common problem. everthing else works perfect on the console apart from it actually playing discs. is there anything i can do to fix this?

I tried renting another copy and same thing. I tried updating my system, same thing. I changed my BD internet connection from allow to confirm and selected no once I started the movie and it worked. Hope I helped you!

Test your internet connections to make sure you have ample upload speeds, then check your console for the amount of available memory. You may need to delete a few things.

The PS3 has a common problem with the disc drive. It may have been no fault of your own, but the drive itself may have stopped working. In most areas, local PC shops offer a quick and reasonably priced solution. Most of the time, the disc drive just has to be replaced, which is less expensive than buying a whole new system!

Some players are picky with certain cdrw/dvdrw discs. You might have to experiment with different brands/types for your discs. I used to have a cd player (teac) which would just refuse certain brands cd-r discs but play others just fine. I know it sounds odd, but once I noticed which ones work and which ones don't I never looked back.
Also, have the "problematic" discs been recorded on just one recorder? Have you tried playing discs recorded on a different recorder?
Also - I'm sure you've already tried it-it's always a good idea to clean the laser just in case.

Hi there,
Most PS3 systems end up doing this due to an over heating of the laser lens. Let me explain: The laser lens in the PS3 is made to read mainly Blue Ray games. The movies need to be read faster than the game discs which causes it to work harder thus the problem arising.
Sometimes, your lucky enough for this to only be a dirty lens problem due to rental movies which are most of the time, if not always, dirty.
Have you tried a lens cleaner kit?
This is the CD-ROM with a small brush on it to clean your laser lens head.
This problem has happened to me in the past and this solved the problem.
It is a common problem for any lens reading console.

How much free memory does your Ps3 have? Are the games used or scratched?

You need a certain amount of memory to play ps3 games. Scratched up games can't be read.

Did you put the disc on the right side? Lay the ps3 down and the ps3 game disc picture should be facing up.

ps3's are region free for gaming, However, certain functionality specific to the game title may be disabled and unreliable if your game is not from the same region as your playstation 3 system. the blueray dvd will only play your specific country region film dvd discs.
