Sometimes the laptop has problems connecting to the internet. Ethernet cable is connected as usual but the computer just wont connect. Wireless wont work either. then all of a sudden the internet comes back. I have restarted and tried connecting to a router and all kinds of things. Seems like a random intermittent problem. Anyone know of anything?

It's mostly your wireless drivers. Update your drivers. It's common on Win7

SOURCE: Toshiba A205-S5819 Can't connect to wireless internet

The router you're trying to acess may not be set up for Vista or may not be compatible with Vista. I had to upgrade the router at my shop in order to work on Vista OS machines.

SOURCE: Keep losing internet connection

Recommendation: If you can switch from the 3rd party wireless utility to the Windows utility. There should be a check box under the properties that says, "Let Windows manage my connection." Also turn off any power management that stops your drives, suspends the machine, etc. When doing WEP, use the actual key, not your password. i.e. the one that looks like "aaff996753bc" not "rosebud".

Reason: Windows wireless starts before you even log in and loads as a service, it runs whether your logged in or not, sleep mode, etc. 3rd party utilities...especially my personal bane of all wireless devices "Netgear" load as applications. That means they don't initialize until after log in and they can be suspended completely or prioritized by power management and resource management utilities when the machine is idle. As for the key thing... WEP translation with Linksys especially can be a little funny with some wireless so I use the key itself which always works.

SOURCE: Sony laptop won't reconnect to wireless router

You need to go into the properties of the wireless connection and set it to automatic connect, somehow the information was removed, maybe you disconnected, which often puts the connection back to manual. by reconnecting it often fixes itself.

Can I disable wireless and connect with ethernet cord and modem, for work do not want remove wireless cord, in the day want to be able to use my wireless.

Are you talking about direct-connecting via Ethernet to a cable or DSL modem? You shouldn't have to disable wireless to do that. If the cable modem has an open Ethernet port, you should be able to run a straight-thru Ethernet Cat-5 cable between that port and the Ethernet port on your laptop. The laptop should recognize that it is connected to the modem through the direct connection. Check the manual for the cable modem or information supplied by your ISP for connection details. You may have to do some setup on the modem to get an Internet connection, like having your ISP 'activate' the modem. Just be sure your Ethernet cable is a straight-thru, standard Ethernet cable, and not a 'cross-over' cable such as is used to transfer data between two computers.

Belkin router can't connect to internet

This is part solution, part clarification request: When you say that you installed the setup software on your laptop, setup software for which: the modem, or the belkin router? Also what type of internet service do you have - Cable? DSL? If you are not sure, list your ISP. What operating systems do you have on your laptop and your main computer?

You say that you connected the modem to your main computer - I am assuming that you mean that you connected your modem with a network or ethernet cable (the one with a connector that looks similar to but larger than a telephone's connector) to your computer's ethernet card, or NIC, port. Is anything connected by ethernet cable to the Belkin router? If you have not connected the modem directly to the router, it will not connect to the internet, and anything connecting to the Belkin router will not be able to access the internet as well.

Try this: disconnected the power from your modem, then disconnect power from your router, and disconnect any ethernet cables from computer & modem, or computer and router. Connect an ethernet cable from the modem to the Belkin Router. (Ensure that you have plugged in the ethernet cable on the router into a port that is either set aside from others, or indicates "Internet", WAN, or something similar - it should be marked either with a different color, labled, or both). Now power on your modem. Wait until you see a steady "ready" light, green ethernet light, or the light usually lit for that model indicating it has completed its bootup tests and the internet connection is ready.
Next, ensure the ethernet cable is connected from the modem to correct WAN or "internet" port on the Belkin Router, then power up the router. Once the router boots up completely, plug in a cable from your computer's (main computer) NIC or ethernet card or port, to a port on the Belkin Router (there should be more than one port available, generally numbered "1, 2, 3" and so on - in a group, seperate from the WAN or internet port). Once you are sure you have the cable plugged into one of the correct ports, and if you have windows, restart your main computer.

Now on your main computer, check to see if you have an internet connection. If you do, you can now resume running the router's software setup on your laptop, which sounds as though it was walking you thru the setup process to connect you via wireless connection to the internet. Report back if you have any success, or if you have any further problems, and best of luck! Hope that info helps

Desktop wont connect to internet but laptop will

Is your cable modem also a wireless router?

From my search on it, it is not a wireless router.

This means you need to attach a hub or a wireless router to your cable modem so that more than one computer can connect to the internet simultaneously.

Go out and buy a wireless router. Connect the wireless router to your cable modem.

Connect your desktop to the wireless router with an ethernet cable.

Then you should have internet on your desktop.

Let me know if this helps. Give me a good rating and vote for me please.

I am trying to connect my new router to my laptop, but the instructions say i should connect my pc to the internet by connecting my ethernet cable to the router.my problem is i have only one connection and...

Modem <-- Ethernet cable --> WAN port on router

LAN port #1 on router <--- Ethernet cable --> network-port on desktop computer

LAN port #2 on router <-- Ethernet cable --> network-port on laptop computer

If the router has built-in "wireless" capability, then use the desktop computer's connection to the router to "configure" the wireless adapter, i.e., pick an SSID, and establish a password, and then your laptop computer can use the SSID/password to connect "wirelessly" to the router.

Laptop wont connect to the internet.this web page cannot be displ

If you are connecting to a wireless router make sure that your internal wireless is turned on it is usually visible on the laptop and the switch may be on a bar above the keyboard or possibly on the side of the laptop there should also be an icon in the system tray by where the time is shown that shows a pc with little waves coming off of it if it has a red x on it then the wireless is not turned on. If you are connecting using an ethernet cable make sure there are link lights (amber and green) lit up where the cable plugs into the laptop.

Computer cabled to Dynex enhanced G wireless will not connect

Unplug the router for ten seconds and plug it back in, it needs to reset. Some routers have a reset button. I often wait longer than ten seconds, I find a beer is usually the right amount of time. Sometimes the modem needs a reset also; unplug everything, then plug back in sequence, with the modem first, the wait, then the router, wait, then turn on your computer. That system works for any brand modem and router.
