I turn on my laptop and I go on internet explorer like usual. Then I am on for about 20 minutes and then it just shuts off and I have to turn it on again.
I checked the heater and it is fine. Please, this laptop the is the only one I have. Please give me a website or a solution to this problem. I really am getting tired of turning it back on right after it shuts off.
I had this problem for a LOONNGG time. I couldnt figure out what the heck was going on or why it was overheating. I almost resorted to buying a new computer, but thankfully I didnt. About 1am this morning it did it to me again. So i decided to clean the bottom and make sure it was clean. I cleaned it, and just out of curiousity, took apart the exhaust fan housing, and O. M. G. was there a TON of dust and junk in there. It took me about 45 minutes to clean it out thuroughly because I am not very computer savy when it comes to taking them apart and putting them back together correctly. But I would be my paycheck that if you took of your exaust fan housing, and then the individual covers for the fan and inspected the fans, and the exhaust ports themselves, you will find your problem. Since i cleaned it, it hasnt turned off once and the fans hardly run at all! I hope this helps guys!
Sorry Chum, I have cleaned mine out and replaced the fan thinking it was overheating. It started shutting off again within about 3 weeks. I have already replaced the hard chip because of flaking which Toshiba has known abot for years. Apparently this has been going on for at least 6 years from the dates on the blog. If I had known this before I bought my A665 I would have spent my money on another brand.

Hey Guy's I think that we should all get in touch with Toshiba and lobby them, as my Tosh Satalite also turns itself off mid way though some important document it's rdiculous we have paid a lot of mony for these lap tops and we should get something back lets take em on guys. What do you say Lady Freeman.
if someone can start a petition that would be good. as I have contacted toshiba by phone and letter and they say there is no such problem. i told them try the internest and you will see thousands of us with the same issue. its time toshiba stands up for their products. never again would i purchase the manufacturer. sucks

My laptop also shuts off while watching videos from the internet (within seconds of it starting) but I can put in a DVD and watch it for hours without a problem. Why would the internet videos overheat my laptop or cause any problems and watching a DVD wouldn't?
I had this same problem and I hope people search for this 2012 answers from yahoo or something. I went to Toshiba Service Station and updated my Bios in order. One of them was a power issue of overheating. After this I had no problems.
Click Windows ICON search service station and open it up.Click check for updatesClick on each update and download from BOTTOM to Top. Everything works perfect now.
I also cleaned out the dust from the fan area never had another problem probably going to do this once a year.
My Toshiba Satellite's turning off problems finally ended when I replaced the hard drive. I had even tried a cool-pad, a unit with fans that draws air away from the bottom of the laptop which helped initially, but then I discovered that it would still turn off even with the fans running. I find that I don't need to use it anymore, the laptop just doesn't get hot anymore.
Now if I could just get the screen to stop flickering and randomly turning off!
I finally fixed the problem with the screen randomly turning off, at the bottom on the screen where it says Toshiba, beneath the LCD TFT there in sits the inverter for the display. If you carefully remove the outer trim piece, you can disconnect and reconnect the connectors at both ends of the inverter board, this procedure has worked for me in preventing the screen from turning off, now it stays on all the time. Remove and reconnect both connectors at either end several times for best performance. Now that it is fixed, I need to upgrade to a new notebook :)
This is a good piece of information here, but unfortunately is kind of short in words. What's a TFT? Inverter? Inverter Board? Removed N reconnect both connectors? at either end several times. Ummm
I just order a new LCD 1080p 17" screen to upgrade what I got. I just reconnect the laptop to an external 23" screen but I noticed that my problem still persist. Now I know for a fact that the screen is not the problem. My problem is the when I boot up normally or in safe mode, the laptop screen goes black. I try everything under the Sun and Im still can't get around this. Any ideas or suggestions?
TFT is a thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display, it was a high end display
The inverter board is located at the bottom middle of the screen, if you press on it when the display goes blank and it flashess or starts working, carefully remove the plastic around the screen and check for a loose connection in that area. I just pushed everything together and it started working fine.
Also, there is a mechanical switch at the base of the screen. Try flicking that a few times (press it down and release it quickly), this too indicates a problem with the inverter board. As I remember it is only about an inch long, push the wires on it securely, reassemble and it should be working. This is the same part that I mentioned in the post above.

It seems like some of arent computer savvy. Toshiba laptops are one of the best in the world (The best would be apple) and this problem only happens to a few people and user btsando is right the cooling fans have dust in them or the heat sync is clogged just clean it out and it will work fine. My Toshiba did this once and its older than the hp laptop i have before and the dell and still works fine
Hi,
While you are accessing the Internet, a large number of temporary files get created. These temporary files consume large amount of memory space in your Toshiba Satellite laptop. This automatically reduces the speed of your Toshiba Satellite laptop. By using system utility, temporary folders can be removed to fix the shut down issues.

I have the same problem. My Toshiba laptop shuts down by itself and sometimes takes letting sit for an hour or so before it stays on for anywhere from and hour to maybe a day without shutting down on its own. I have checked the memory, cleaned the air screens, keep it elevated so there is good air flow and after a time it starts all over again, I have run Adaware and Norton 360 and no viruses have been detected. It's when I am on the web and off. Any advice beside get a new laptop?

My Toshiba Satellite-A205 laptop is fine when watching a DVD or just being on the internet all day, however, when I watch a show on-line, it shuts off within ten minutes. If it were overheating, wouldn't it shut itself down even when just browsing the internet, watching a DVD or listening to a CD? Why is it only when I choose to watch on-line tv? Please help!!
