I replaced my "entire" ice cube maker (tube, hoses, water pump, ice maker) and it still pooled water at the bottom. I removed the back panel in the freezer and noticed the ciols go through a defrost cycle and water forms in tray under coils. I removed the lower panel on rear of fridge -and found a drain hose near the water solenoid/pump. I blew compressed air into the hose and hopefully unblocked it so it can drain into the pan not the freezer.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite 106-74202402 Freezes food ice solid in the fridge

Hi

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Well, that wire is likely the cause of your issue, somebody probably bent it, and now it gets caught on the door or a basket or a food item or what have you, and since it cannot move, the ice maker will not make ice.

Moldy Ice from Ice Maker

Hi: Does it have a water filter? Sears parts is offline at the moment, so I can't tell. Most of the newer models do. The 596.xxx tells me that it was built in the Amana factory for Kenmore. Most likely there is a water filter in the top of the fresh food compartment. It has been growing mold in storage, and the lines too. It's on the upper right side, behind a housing with a tab to release it. Lower the housing and remove the water filter. Did you receive the bypass plug with the ref.? It looks like a large plastic wing nut with the same fitting as the water filter. If so put it in and flush the system with city water. Most city water has chlorine to clean your lines. If you install a new filter without flushing the lines it will remove the chlorine as it's supposed to do, but the lines from the filter wont get clean. If you don't have the plug, buy one. Flush the system and then install the filter. I hope this helps, Jeff

Ice maker not making ice. Water disp inside frig disp water.

the line that gives water to the ice maker, every time the water comes down it lives a drip of water that turns to ice blocking the line, get some hot water and a towel and place the hot wet towel on top of the line intel it melts the ice in side the line. it happens to my frige at list once a year. if that is not the problem the valve that supplies water tho the ice maker needs replacing, it's behind the frige at the bottom, where the line coming from the house meets the frige.

Ice maker not making ice

yes, there is 2 lines, one for the water and the other for the ice. you can take the back lower panel behind the frige and take a look at the water line coming from the house where it connects to the frige, you can disconet the line that goes to the freezer, and put the line inside of a container of about 1 litter, and waite for about 30 minutes it at to have some water inside just enough to fill the ice maker. if you donot get any water, replace that valve.

ICE CUBE MAKER SMELLY ICE CUBES

Hello margrek
Welcome,

YOU SAID, YOU HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER THE ICE CUBES SMELL HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM

Ice has bad odor and taste.

1• Ice has picked up odor or
flavor from strong food stored
in refrigerator or freezer.
2• Water running to ice maker
has poor taste or odor.
3• Ice not used frequently enough.
4• Cover foods tightly. Discard stale ice. Ice maker will
produce fresh supply.
5• Add filter to water supply line. Consult a water purifying
company.
7• Discard stale ice.
