ICE CUBE MAKER SMELLY ICE CUBES

HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER
THE ICE CUBES SMELL HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM

Thanks for input, the refrigerator is only a year old. I always seal all containers tightly, I don;t even put a cut onion in the fridge, even if it's sealed, simply because I am trying hard to watch for odorous foods. I drink the tap water without problems once it's been in refrigerator chilled. I will try ziplocking fresh cubes and checking that idea out. I can't afford the water purifyier system. And trust me, the refrigerator and freezer are spotless. Thanks guys.

Hello margrek
Welcome,

YOU SAID, YOU HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER THE ICE CUBES SMELL HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM

Ice has bad odor and taste.

1• Ice has picked up odor or
flavor from strong food stored
in refrigerator or freezer.
2• Water running to ice maker
has poor taste or odor.
3• Ice not used frequently enough.
4• Cover foods tightly. Discard stale ice. Ice maker will
produce fresh supply.
5• Add filter to water supply line. Consult a water purifying
company.
7• Discard stale ice.

Have same problem. Refrigerator and freezer have no odors. Have charcoal deoderizers in freezer and refrigerator. If i make ice cubes in trays manually there is no problem with ice. Believe problem has to be in duct work from freezer to ice maker.

Unfortunately, this is one of the inherent problems with a self defrosting freezer units. Some frost free models/brands are less smelly than others. Grabbing the cubes as soon as they drop so they don't sit in that nasty freezer air and placing them in a zip lock would help a lot but probably not completely. Be sure and clean the inside of the freezer often so there is less of the smell left in the plastic that surrounds the ice cubes as well as the foods. Don't eat freezer burned vanilla ice cream, for sure! Hope this helps.

I had this problem with my Kenmore side-by-side for years. I would clean, bleach all parts and bucket, but the smell would come back after a week or so. It had the metal taste and stinked. It was embarrassing to give ice to friends. Finally I removed the metal auger and just allowed the ice cubes to fall into the bucket. I dip the ice out with a cup instead of dispensing it. The ice is fine, I enjoy ice water and ice in tea without having to change it. I haven't had to bleach it in a few years. I want to order the plastic auger and try it to see if the problem returns.

We just bought a new frigidare refrigerator with a new icemaker installed its been a week and keep dumping the cubes..terrible taste really no smell though.. any suggestions?

Do not use a metal braided line or a vinyl braided line. Get the plastic ice maker tubing and that will fix it. I learned the hard way and now ice taste great.

your model will have a filter for it. it is located usually on the fridge side torwarss the top back of the fridge. it sounds like you need to replace the filter. it needs to be replaced every 4 monthes or so to keep the water clean. also you may put some water in a cup from the tap/faucet and make sure it is not the water it's self. if it is you may want to think about also having a water filtration system installed in your home.

Ice maker stopped making ice

hi there,

sounds like the i/m is making ice. if you have ice in the bucket, it means that the only problem is the dispensor. if you have frost anywhere, the problem is with the actuator, which is the ice pladdle. you may have a broken spring or just the ice paddle need to be replaced.
