I get error code ER FF. Freezer frosty but working. Fridge is warm. Please help.
I fixed it. ER FF is "Error Freezer Fan." Once the evaporator fan stops turning for more than 115 seconds, this error message will be displayed. This fridge is poorly designed and is not designed with air gaps or enough air gaps to allow air behind the back panel of the freezer where the fans and condenser coils are located thus causing ice to build up around the fan and it's ability to spin. The evaporator fan helps cirulate the cold air generated by the condenser coils.
The fix is (1) defrost your refrigerator which means you'll loose all your food if you don't have another unit to keep the food in until it's done defrosting or (2) to dismantle the entire freezer by removing all the trays and railing so that you can pull the back panel far enough to get the front end of a hair dryer over the top lip of the panel to melt the ice. My unit had ice build at the top right and left corners behind the panel. I opted for the latter and didn't have to throw any food away.
This is going to be an annual chore if I want to keep this refrigerator. We should all ban together and call for a recall.
Thank you so much!!!! I called Sears today because I had the same code. They told me that my warranty ran out the first of the month and because there was a problem with the unit they would not extend the warranty!!!! Then they proceeded to treat me like a moron and inform me that "only a 'professional' technician should ever repair any appliance" and asked when I wanted to schedule repair? AT $75.00 an hour PLUS PARTS!!! I told them I would contact them when and if I decided to use their lowsy service and disconnected!!! I then let my fingers do the walking through cyber space and low and behold!!! Here was my answer thanks to you!!! My Fridge is now fixed and it didn't cost me a penny!!!! Thanks again, and I am IN if anyone truly wants to start a recall on these dumb things!! Blessings, Sundae
I'm with you. We have the same issue with ours.I too called Sears and explained the error code....before I could even finish telling the person on the phone the issue, she interrupted me to say "Oh you will need service. When would you like to schedule" She was all too eager to charge me for service, but would make no reccomendations as to what the problem might be. I purchased a number of appliances to furnish my new home. I have already had one extremely frustrating service with the Sears service department. . These experiences will prevent me from ever purchasing another appliance from Sears again. I will buy from my local appliance dealers that will provide local service. I will listen to you all and give the hair dryer solution a try. I vote for a recall on these lemons.
So I did what you said its still doing it. Did anybody have a service guy come out to fix the problem and how much did it cost?
So I did what you said but still doing it....Did anybody get it fix and how much?
Like Lilytoy said. Error code FF was the fan frozen up in ice. I fixed it after it was only 18 months old and again about 18 months later. I just put frozen food in a camp cooler while I melt the ice with a hair dryer. With the bottom freezer drawer removed the back panel snaps out at the top. You'll see the ice built up around the coils and fan in the upper right. I had it all melted out with the hairdryer and back together in an hour.
Mine just did the same thing! Fan was making a loud noise for a few days and now isn't working at all and that error code is coming up.
THANK YOU, lilytiy!!!!! You are a life-saver! :)
I got rid of that heap of junk! Never again will I buy anything Kenmore!
Kenmore is cheap junk. NEVER buy a Kenmore product. Performed the hair dryer method. Did not work. Service call bad motor. $390 parts and labor. $75 service call fee. Thanks kenmore. Glad to see sears and hopefully kenmore close/file bankruptcy.
Although this has the Kenmore name, it is made by LG. I have the same piece of junk and am experiencing the same problem. The freezer is completely dead. Fridge is still cold. Hoping the fridge will stay cold for the 2 weeks it's going to take to get another refrigerator delivered.
We have all sorts of problems aswell. Put me down for a recall

We have had the over under now for 3 years. About 2 months ago started getting ER FF codes. SEARS SUCKS.....not only do we have the fridge problem but have had major issues with their dishwasher and have gone through 2 grills lasting about 18 months each. Their customer service is the worst that I have EVER dealt with and their products ****. I will NEVER EVER buy another Sears product as long as I live. BUYER BE WARE.....I am not speaking from one bad experience, rather multiple product types across 1/2 dozen years. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.
We paid for extended warranty/repair plans on all our appliances, was money well spent, the dishwasher rack broke constantly, they finally replaced it with metal components, not plastic, it has been fine ever since, imagine if they had been metal all along?
Our electric range has never worked correctly, and the front burner doesn't work at all, it shorted out, but our extended warranties are expired, we fixed the control panel, which literally fell out of the range, it needs a new one, we can't afford it yet.
The refrigerator door RUSTED because the ice maker seal keeps failing and water from melting ice was dripping out continually, they fixed the flap twice, but still leaks, the ice maker stopped working, we had to replace the water lines twice to the ice maker, and now the fridge is throwing an error code.
These appliances are substandard, it is sad really, Kenmore used to be a great brand. They are 5 years old, the fridge we replaced was 12 years old, it still worked too...it wasn't a Kenmore Elite.
The word stu pid is a swear word, but not the word sucks?

I call for a recall...I keep having this problem at least twice a month.
This fridge is manufactured by LG. Thats who you have to go to for a real resolution. Even if Sears goes through the motions, they will end up referring you to LG and IF LG doesn't take care of the problem, then Sears will consider talking to you. We have this fridge, and only 6 months after purchasing it, it flooded my kitchen, to the tune of $50K. LG offered to pay us about 1/2 that amount, we are still arguing with them. Now we have this issue. I'm so sick of this beautiful piece of ****.
Our refig is a year old, and the ER FF codes keep coming upp. The refig is stop working.
Ditto on our Sears Kenmore Elite. Sears has a factory repair which fixes ER 1F error. We got that down and the ER 1F went away. 5 months later, we are getting the ER FF that you all mentioned. Go for the RECALL!

Recall!!
Put me down for a recall also. I have the same problem, hopefully the extended warranty will take care of it. No more sears **** for me, or LG for that matter.
I have the same problem the er ff comes on. The light in the fridge part doesn't come on. A piece of plastic fell off the roller bar in the freezer. Don't buy this Kenmore 795.78099! It's a piece of junk! I called to have it serviced yesterday, was told it would be a week before someone could come out to look at it. I told the guy at Sears to forget it! I wlill never buy from Sears again!!!

We have had a fridge 2 years and it did the same thing. Its bull **** whe you pay this much for something and it goes out in no time. We would like to be in on this recall too. Thanks
Mine just did the
same thing! Fan was making a loud noise for a few days and now isn't
working at all and that error code is coming up. ER FF code came up after one an half year of purchase. I just defrost it, and will see it is working,or not? That is America problem today, everything is made with cheep labor (Korea,China..)
Put me down for a recall also.
I agree "RECALL". We have had our frig for several years and have had more problems than I have ever had with a frig! This er rr code every so often and we have had our mother board replaced because the lights in the frig wouldn't shut off!! The lights were melting the top of the frig plus spoiling the food.
I also have a Sears model 795.77249602 with the error message "er ff." I tried removing the back plate and cleaning the coils in the rear, defrosting the unit, unplugging/plugging back in etc. to no avail. The freezer rails are broken and the water stream that comes out of the door is ridiculously slow -- even after replacing the expensive cartridge. I got duped for a $1200. I refuse to throw good money after bad and will get a different refrigerator. Put me on that recall list! I will not buy another Sears/LG product.
This fridge is the worse I have ever owned. Both upper door hooks broke early on.Sears fixed one, the other broke 13 months in and they refused to fix it.Now I have error and ff .So far if I unplug for a few minutes and restart it goes away for a while. This fridge is under 4 years old.I am ready to cut my losses and dump it .Never again Sears ! RECALL RECALL RECALL!!!!!!
Update on this piece of junk fridge,I defrosted it and removed the upper center panel in the fridge and as I thought the evaporator fan is not working.Called sears for a repair appt. 7 day wait,I was told the technicians are very busy-NO WONDER!
Technician came after 7 day without the uses of the fridge and my diagnosis was right the evaporator motor was the problem.
I also have this refrigerator model #795.71302.011. We also had to codes ER FF. We have previously had the loud noise of the fan in the freezer hitting ice and have unlpugged it overnight and it seemed to fix it. Now the freezer works but the refrigerator doesn't.
Lori,I would bet that the evaporator fan motor is not working and will need to be replaced.
Joe...check out my solution above, #9. it works. You won't have to replace anything. here's the video:

Recall! I feel fortunate I at least had mine 5 years - but still disappointing! Have a repair man coming this morning (not Sears repair) - but don't know if I want to throw good money into it.
I don't even wait for the er ff code to come up. I can now hear it, and my food is not that cold. I take the freezer door off, back panel, etc...use a hair dryer and then a space heater to dry it out. Takes me a little over an hour for the whole process. I've done it enough times. Sucks that we pay so much for a lot of aggravation.
There is a youtube video i used to help me the first time. It's really not that hard to do, and much better than calling Sears(which btw I called the first time and they changed a screen or some BS like that...cost me $300). Here's the video:
Having the same problem please help er ff and my fridge is warm wat do I do
I finally did a complete de-frost that took 10 hours. Opened all the doors and turned a fan on to warm it up. Totally worked. No more strange noises, error codes or water in the inside. Totally filled up the drain pans in the back. took off the lower rear vent panel (6 + screws) and removed the water. Works like new. Jerry
I have a Kenmore 79572483411 and the same thing is happening, 16 months old. I have already spent $750 to fix it and we have not yet solved the problem. So far I have replaced the entire evaporator fan kit ($500 with service techs labor) and the main pcb control board ($220, did it myself). Now I'm waiting for the evaporator fan motor ($67), which Sears claims "should" solve the problem. I'm done after this. The days of affordable quality appliances are gone, as long as all these stores let companies like LG make their parts.
The blow drier and resetting the power worked for me as well. I'll see how long its going to last. First time this has happened in the 10 years we've had it.
Sears has really gone down hill in product quality and support. I called 3 times while under warranty. They say there is no forseeable day they could send someone out. They say someone will call you back to schedule. No one ever does. Never buying any Sears product again until they change. This is not your grandparents Sears anymore!

I have the same problem. Â Help!
I have the same problem. For the last four months the refrigerator was making a rumbling noice and now a ER FF code is showing on the control panel.
I had this same problem about a month ago. We disconnected and restarted and it work. Now I'm back with the same problem. Do I need to replace the fan? Please advise.
Ok, how do we all ban together for a recall?. Let's do it. $1800 for a fridge that doesn't last more than 18 mos is rediculous. I'm happy to start the ball rolling.

The really stinks! We're having the same problem, and everything is defrosting & warm! Model 795.7756
I have that error code but my freezer remains frozen. My refrigerator is not cool at all. Is this still the freezer fan?
I have that ER FF but my freezer is freezing fine. It is my refrigerator that is not cold. What can I do?
I have the same problem with the model 7957205. Contacted Sears and was told by a technician it was a design problem. $510 to fix on a fridge that is barely a year old. I contacted management at Sears who blamed it on me for not buying the extended warranty. I contacted LG who referred me back to Sears. I will rejoice when Sears goes under, because of the poor business practices they have adopted. Shame, they didn't use to be this way.
My 5 yr old Kenmore Elite just started this er ff code. The code appears and disappears randomly. The fridge is not quite as cool as it should be and ice cream in freezer is not frozen hard either. I am going to empty the freezer and try your fix over the weekend. Will let you know of my results. This fridge can't hold a candle to the 20 yr old Kitchenaid that it replaced.
I did the fix, removed all ice from around the fan and blew it with a hair dryer. Put it all back together and got no error message for a day or so, but now error message is back. Despite error message, freezer & fridge seem to working ok and there are no strange noises. Any ideas anyone ?
make sure you let it completely dry out. i used a hair dryer, and a small space heater. pointed into the freezer for a good hour. if its not completely dry, it will freeze back up again. this process usually lasts 6 months or so. good luck!
Ice build-up (and condensation in the fridge section) likely comes from humidity in the outside air getting into the fridge. Try to avoid excessive door openings and durations of both fridge and freezer since both share the same air. Condensation in the fridge suggests you have this problem.
I turned off the unit for 2 or 3 hours with the doors closed. Then removed the freezer upper tray and ice tray and used a hair dryer to warm up the rear of the freezer. Not that much water came out so I assumed that the ice buildup was minor. I checked the rear air inlet and outlets and there was very little dust and adequate air movement. Running fine now.
Recall!!!!! Lost $300 worth of food!
