Playstation 3 works fine useing the av hook up but won;t work with hdmi cable hook up.

First, make sure your TV is on the appropriate input for the plugged in HDMI cable. Once this is completed, turn your ps3 on. If the screen comes on and is black, turn the ps3 to standby (red light is on) and hold the front power button until the console beeps a second time. This will usually force the ps3 to recognize the hdmi input and will bring up the menu to configure the AV settings.

My ps3 turns on and the screen says no signal but the hdd lights is flashing, about 3 minutes later it goes to a black screen

Had the same problem with my 1st PS3,(Im on my 4th one now) If you are using HDMI cables check them first before you go spending $$ on boards and power supplies.I listened to people on message boards at first until I realized it said"audio only" which means you have a video issue,,, Start with your HDMI or A/V cables, whichever youre using.

My ps3 console signal isn't working but the sound works but there is no signal! not even a hdmi cable works help!

Try these tips to fix the so-called "black screen of death".

Tip 1: The main reason of HDMI black screen problem due to HDMI cable may be damaged and not properly connected to the PS3 console. Please follow below step to troubleshoot PS3 HDMI cables problem:

1) Restart your PlayStation 3.
2) Look for loose cables.
3) Try to unplug all cables except the power cord, and plug them back in. If you found out that your HDMI cable is damaged, borrow a friends cable and try it. If your friends cable works fine, and the black screen error disappears. Then you can buy a brand new HDMI cable for a replacement.

Tip 2: Only try as last resort. There is a possibility you'll lose all data on your PS3's hard drive. If tip 1 didn't work, you will need to go a step deeper and reset your console. Most PS3 gamers are not aware that Sony actually included a black screen of death troubleshooting method and other HDMI problems in the PS3 manual, you can find it under the troubleshooting section - topic "console reset".

If you do it correctly, the console reset fix will allow you to reset back your PS3 to its default HDMI settings without impacting your gamer profile, and other storage data on the hard drive.

You will need to perform the following steps:

1. Place your PS3 in stand-by mode.
2. Hold down the touch power button until a series of beeps are heard.
3. Listen for one long beep, followed by two shorter beeps.
4. Release the power button.
5. Follow the instructions on screen.

If it works you should be good to go.

My ps3 turns on normally, but the screen is just black and it has always worked on the tv i got. But one day i turned it on and the tradmark wavey line was ther but nothing eles so i restarted it again but...

Hi, i also had this problem with mine. You hold your finger on the power button for about 5 seconds. After two beeps it resets it to the RCA cable format. When the HDMI cable is connected, the PS3 automatically adjusts it's resolution. But when you go back to regular cable it doesnt do it automatically, you have to do it manually.

Take care.

PS3 went from a "snowy" screen to a black screen. HELP PLEASE!!

hi..
Two or more things, first make sure you have your audio vidio cables correct

Yellow= Video
Red= Audio right
White Audio left

Also make sure that the tv matches the input your cables are connected into. I would make sure the restart the PS3 to make sure the video is good (after checking the tv input)

Help me please

This might happen if you've switched cables (i.e. from the supplied cable to an HDMI cable).  If you did this follow the advice above from laph9979 and you should get a screen asking if you want to restart the system (or restore it to factory defaults).

PS3 no picture on screen. Borrowed Unit from a friend.

If the TV was originally set up on an HDTV via HDMI cables you'll have to reset the video/audio outputs on the PS3. When you turn the PS3 on hold your finger down on the button until it beeps a second time, then remove your finger and let the console restart. That should reset the PS3's video output.

HDMI green screen

1-HDMI is available in several versions. The PLAYSTATION 3 is compatible with HDMI version 1.3 or higher, which will take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ high-definition video. There are also "Type A" and "Type B" connectors. The PLAYSTATION 3 uses the 19-pin Type A connector, which will allow resolutions up to 1080p.
The HDMI cable is not included with the PLAYSTATION 3. If you are using an HDMI to DVI converter, you may wish to remove this adaptor.

2- The resolution output (i.e., picture quality) of the PLAYSTATION 3 will depend on three factors:
The type of cable used and the inputs available on the TV or display monitor.
The maximum resolution the TV or display monitor can support. The PLAYSTATION 3 can output two types of resolution: HD and SD. Refer to the TV or display monitor's owner's manual to check which video modes are supported.
The maximum resolution programmed into the source material (movie or game). Refer to the software packaging for information on maximum resolution details or contact the publisher directly.

3- Try connecting with the supplied AV Cable instead of the HDMI to see if you can get a successful installation. This will help determine where the problem may be with your particular HMDI setup and/or equipment.

4- Disconnect any coaxial cables at the point closest to the television. Signals sent through coaxial cables may cause interference with the sound and picture outputted from the PLAYSTATION 3 which results in buzzing and humming noises from your display and speakers.
