If you go into the convergence adjustment in the menu normally you can adjust up down side to side. If the convergence ic's have failed you wont be able to adjust at all or in every direction. There will be from 1-3 convergence IC's. All would need to be replaced. They are roughly 3 inchs long and 2 inches tall and begins with STK392-xxx. A repair center charges will vary from state to state and urban areas to rural areas. Roughly 220.00 - 260.00 would be a decent average.

How to fix the convergence on a toshiba TP55D81 tv using the remote control

The convergence is adjusted with the remote by entering a tech menu and adjusting there====if convergence is really bad adjustments are not going to fix it.

The set should have in customer menu a limited convergence adjustment with up to nine points where you can adjust---if it will not adjust there in some way----convergence circuit needs repair.

Colors converge will not adjust. What can be done?

Xpertis,
When the convergence will not adjust after you know you have set them correctly using your TV's convergence adjustment, your convergence board went bad. You can either repair it yourself with kits sold online (links below) but unless you know how to solder very well, opt for a repair guy. Your model will cost between $350 and $450 if you hire someone.

If you like to tinker but not dwell into the soldering world, try finding the same model for free or dirt cheap on a web site like www.craigslist.org that still works but like where a kid jumped into the screen!, and swap out the board.

Good Luck!

Adjusthow do I adjust the convergence

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Convergence On Panasonic PT-47WX54j

Did you do a repair on the convergence circuit? If so it would be ok to do an adjustment in the service menue. But if you have a problem in the conergence circuit and you dont repair it first, making adjustments in the service menue can do damage to the DCU and cause you major problem in the future. If you have already repaired the convergence circuit then let me know and i will get you the codes.

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.
