When was the last time you changed the brushes on the motor? Check the brushes by removing the motor and then the brushes. The brushes should have at least 15mm left on them. Use compressed air and blow out the motor.

I have had the same problem. If you switch the machine to off and then to cotton/linen 95, then press at the same time prewash, soaking, qick wash and stain buttons for 10 seconds switch it off. When I switched it on it worked.

The recommendation to get a new motor may be overkill and a very expensive option. Also on this site I found an alternative solution which was to just replace the motor brushes. This we did and it fixed the problem, coasting us just £20.15, rather than the £199 quoted for a new motor!

A reasonably competent person needs to remove the motor, identify the brushes and remove - just involves two hex-head screws. When new the brushes will be around 2.5cm long. They need to be around 1 - 1.5cm long to work. Alternatively the spring(s) may be sticking, preventing the brushes from being pushed against the rotor.

When calling suppliers to enquire as to availability I needed not just the product description, but also the PNC and serial numbers (located inside the front door), as types of brushes have varied during the production period. However the outlet I went to still did not have the correct bush - housings were different. The chap serviing very kindly swapped new brushes into the existing housings - this is something you could do yourself if you cannot get the exact same ones - just a little fiddly.

Hope this helps!

Just a bit more on replacing the "coalbrushes" - I generally would call them motor brushes:

My zanussi zwg 6141p washing machine is calling water at start of cycle but is not going into drawer to swill out detergent , is also stopping half way with the green light on the start button flashin

Some appliances malfunction can be displayed in hexadecimal or in binary code.
So your device is defective and shows you what's wrong. You have to count how many times flashes red light and how many times flashes green light. Red light shows the first error number and green light the second error number.
For example: you forgot to close the door and you started washing machine. After some time (timeout) will generate an alarm. Four times will flash red light and once the green light which means error code " E41 " or "Open door"
" E20 " means "No drain water"
" E10 " means "No fill up water"

Washing Machine will not start

either your door actuator is broken or the door switch itself. look at the door and see if the latch(actuator) is broken or loose. If not order a door switch. It can be changed easy if you remove the retainer from the bellows and loosen it from the front of machine.
Hope that helps

Bosch classixx 1200 washing machine. There was a power cut and now it won't work. tried leaving for 20mins with it set for a wash cycle. All spin lights flashed as did the wash programme light. After...

Before you investigate the fault, try unplugging the machine at the mains for 20 minutes. This MAY reset the problem and all will be well. If that fails, then read on:

The flashing lights are an error code. You will see that there are a series of rapid flashes followed by a pause and then the series of flashes will be repeated, this is the error code being displayed. If you count the number of flashes being given then you use that number to correspond to the fault code, for example, three flashes would be fault code 3.

Fault Code 1 notlit.gif notlit.gif lit.gif Door open after program has been startedThis error code may well not show up for a minute or so after you actually go to start the washing machine but the door can be closed and the program restarted.
If the error persists there may be a fault with the door locking mechanism or door latch.
Fault Code 2 notlit.gif lit.gif notlit.gif Water intake has failed
Error after more than 10 minutesa failure of the water inlet valve or the water supply itself has been cut off somehow. This can be due to the water valve or supply as stated but it may also be worth checking the filters in the fill valves to ensure that they are clear.
Fault Code 3 notlit.gif lit.gif lit.gif Heating time exceeds 105 minutesThis would ordinarily indicate a fault with the water heating element or, certainly, the water heating circuit as the washing machine is indicating that it has failed to reach temperature.
The error can be caused by faulty wiring, the heater as stated, low voltage or even a calcified heater has been known to generate this error code.
Fault Code 4 lit.gif notlit.gif notlit.gif Takes longer than 6 minutes to drain.Very often you will see this error if the filter is blocked or obstructed or the drain pump is jammed or faulty.
This error code can also be caused by the pressure sensor being blocked by overfoaming from overdosing detergent or using a poor quality detergent as well as a pressure switch or sensor failure.
When this error occurs the program is aborted as it is considered to be a "fatal error" without any attempt to drain the washing machine.
Fault Code 5 lit.gif notlit.gif lit.gif NTC thermistor open circuit or short circuit
Self explanatory really, either a faulty NTC or wiring. The washing machine will complete the program but will not heat.
Fault Code 6 lit.gif lit.gif notlit.gif Unexpected heatingThe machine has attempted to heat at a stage in the program where it should not.
Fault Code 7 lit.gif lit.gif lit.gif Fault detected in motor or drive circuit
Very often you will see this error if the carbon brushes or the motor fails.
This error code can be generated by no tacho reading from the motor (the electronics cannot see the tach generator of the motor), a triac fault or short circuit or a faulty reversing relay on the control board. The washing machine will try to start the motor but after several attempts the program will be aborted with this error code which is again consider to be a "fatal"

Machine stopped mid cycle and green light flashing under green start button

Many modern washing machines display error codes if they detect a fault, but not all washing machines display a readable error code, some indicate an error by flashing, or lighting some of the lights.

Hotpoint, Indesit, Zanussi error codes

Hotpoint, Indesit washing machines and Zanussi washing machines are some common appliances that display coded error codes. On their more expensive models, they display readable error codes but basic models (without digital displays) use flashing lights to convey the error fault code.

If your washing machine malfunctions and you can see some of the lights flashing, or one or more option lights have lit up, then make a note of which lights are flashing and which option lights are lit. NOTE: the error code list engineers have only shows the option lights by number and not by name. Therefore you need to report the lights as LED 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 etc. and NOT "delay timer" and "extra rinse". Count the lights from the left (or from the top if in a column) and report as "led 1 and 3" etc.

No Option lights?

With basic washing machines that have no option indicator lights, count the number of flashes. For example, the door locked indicator may flash 7 times, pause, and flash another 7 times in a constant cycle which would indicate error code 7.

This information is vital, and needs mentioning when reporting a fault.

Hoover HNL7166 'Start Delay' light flashing

Hoover (Nextra series) washing machines

The 'Start' & 'Pause' LED's will flash together to indicate the error code. You have to count the flashes within each 15 second period to get that error code. The start and the pause LED's will flash together at 1Hz (i.e 1 flash per second) within that 15 second time frame, then will continue and show again within another 15secs and so on.

1 Flash = Interlock fault
2 Flashes = Fill time-out
3 flashes = Drain time-out
4 flashes = Overfill fault presure pipe blocked
5 flashes = NTC error
6 flashes = faulty control board
7 flashes = Motor jammed
8 flashes = Tacho fault
9 flashes = Motor triac on module board
10 flashes = Prog Selector or wiring fault

Cycle wont run and lights on main washes flash

When you switch it on can you still select the wash type ?
If you can, when you shut the door does it start the cycle normally by pumping out the sump, but then when the wash pump (the cause of the main noise during the cycle) would normally start it stops and beeps - opening the door then shows the flashing error code ?

If your symptoms are the same as above or similar, suspect the heater is stuffed. My BFI62 did the above and it turned out to be a faulty (open circuit) heater. As I had no knowledge of dishwashers at the time, I called in a repair guy. As soon as he saw the fault code he suspected the heater - seems a batch of heaters (from the USA) had proved very unreliable (apparently Hotpoint got compensation from the manufacturers because of the number of problems it caused them). The replacement was made in Germany and the repair guy said he'd not known one of those to go faulty !
The repair guy diagnosed the heater open circuit from the control panel inside the door without even removing the dishwasher from it's location. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to note which wires ran off the board to the heater. Changing the heater needed it out and on it's side (be prepared for quite a lot of water on the floor).

Finally, when he'd fitted the new heater, it took him two goes to get the pipes either side of it to seal properly - quite common apparently and the source of even more water on the floor !

Hope this helps.
