Ice maker quit working

Most likely you have a refrigerant leak and there is not enough to freeze the ice. The compressor will run almost constantly trying to cool the unit. Sears repair can give you a better answer since this is a Kenmore unit. They have a toll free number you can call and maybe they can give you a cost estimate so you can determine if you want to fix or replace the unit.

If your ice maker is not making ice and you poured water into the ice maker, that would indicate the ice maker is not cycling. If you have any make or model except a whirlpool, kitchenaid or sears kenmore, if you replace the ice maker, you will be making ice in no time. If you have one of the aforementioned brands, AND the ice BUCKET is mounted on the door, you will have to replace the electric eye boards on either side wall as well, as these often short, damaging the icemaker electronics in the process.

Check for broken gear or cam in the ice maker module. You can repair them but it might be easier to replace. If your gear and cam are good it pobably is something else that's wrong.

Ice maker Diagnostic Test:

- Remove the ice bucket
-Turn the ice maker off, wait 15 seconds than turn it back on
-Press the ice paddle three times, this will begin diagnostic test.
-PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ICE MAKER DURING DIAGNOSTICS

-In 3 minutes you should see the rack inside turn 360 degrees
-AND the ice maker bowl should fill with water

-IF either DID NOT work, call 1-800-GE-CARES for ice maker replacement. A service call is approx $80. The $80 will be deducted from the part/labor if you choose to purchase/install parts from the service technician. If not, you will pay for the service call. Good luck.

The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs

Could be the sensor for the ice maker to fill up....we have a wire bar that flips up when full so it shuts off ....also a piece of ice gets stuck in the plastic fingers somtimes but since you defrosted it that shouldn't be the problem....not sure if you can take the ice maker out yourself ...better call the repair man ...

I would check the ice maker assembly itself, perhaps an ice cube has not completely exited the mould,and is preventing the ive maker form cycling again

Sharon, I've owned a comparable Kitchenaid refrigerator and have had at least six service calls over the past two years due to the ice maker not functioning properly. Gears have been replaced, sensors replaced, the whole ice maker has been replaced, and the problems keep on coming. Just last week the element that pushes the ice through the grater quit working. The only salvation for me has been that I purchased and renewed the extended warranty with Sear on what I had anticipated would have been a quality product. Kitchenaid has been absolutely worthless in responding to my concerns. Typical service charges for these repairs would run $140-$200 without the service contract. Oh yeah, the ice maker also chronically fails to expel the ice into the hopper because it gets jammed in the tray. Good luck!
