6A80 error is an APP position error caused by the APP motor during the purging operation as the printer starts up. Canon states that one of three components is likely to have failed, the sheet feed unit, purge unit or logic board. All of these will be almost impossible to get as a spare part. The only thing worth trying is an EEPROM reset that can be done using the service manual. Get a copy here: http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/4981053-canon-pixma-mp520-printer-service-manual

        Start with printer off

Press and hold resume Button (triangle in the circle)
and click “Power” button. green led should be on

While holding the Power button, release the Resume
        Button.

Without releasing the Power Button, click “Resume”
button for two times and release Both Buttons.

Click “Resume” for four times then soon click “Power”
button, to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber).

Turn off the printer and turn on again

Put the colors out of the printer and do it on and off a few times and put the colors back in and a few times on and off again, that was working on my 6a80 problem.

Error cannon pixma mp520

Turned it on, off many times as instructions suggest,
etc no dice. Reinstalled software, did everything including giving it a few taps.I was very seriously ready to buy a new one and trash this one, even checking flyers. I read where so my are having this same problem.
In my anger I started pushing all the buttons randomly and suddenly the green light stayed on.
Voila the crazy thing works fine again. Must have reset the glych somehow ?(I have no idea how)
Give it a try before giving up, who knows!!
