Hello, there are a few things you can try. The problem may be that you have too many processes running at once in the background, some of which could be Spyware and others harmless progs just being a nuisance.

1. Disk Cleanup - Go start - progs - accessories and system tools. Run Disc Cleanup and follow instructions.

2. Run disk defragmenter from the same menu. This will order you files better. If you try to find a file in a filing cabinet with no order its hard, but to find a file in an alphabetically ordered cabinet its easy and quick.

3. Download a good Spyware protector ie spybot, spyware terminator.

4.Stop programs that are not required from booting at startup. Type "msconfig" in the search or run box, hit enter. Click on the startup tab and here you have a list of progs that boot on startup (ticked ones). Then if you keep that window open go to this link.

http://www.processlibrary.com

Any process that you are unfamiliar with, just type its name into the process library database to see if it is required or harmful to your system. If not needed, simply de-select.

This will take maybe 30mins or so and is well worth doing.

5. Buy some more RAM for your pc. Its cheap and easy to do. Usually just 4 screws to unscrew and plug and play.

Hope all this helps.

Jim

Why is my screen forever freezing up on me

That can result from a virus attack. The viruses are capable of filling up your memory and makes computer operations very slow and eventually freeze. Or it can be a result of a failing hard drive. I suggest that you install an antivirus software, update it and run a full system scan. Restart your computer

My computer too slow always get the not responding reply.

Eliminate Viruses and Spyware
Step 1

Run your antivirus program. There may be something slowing your computer that you can remove. It is a good idea to run your antivirus program every week.
Step 2

Remove spyware. Run a good spyware tool at least twice a month.
Step 3

Use a pop-up blocker, if you have one. Check your antivirus program.

Dispose of the Extras

Step 1

Delete your document files for anything you no longer need. Saved pictures, audio and video files in particular can slow your computer.

Step 2

Remove unwanted programs from the Control Panel area. Old toolbars or games the kids downloaded off the Internet are a good place to start. Look for software you no longer use, such as the old printer you threw out last year.

Step 3

Clean out your email. Old messages are a constant drain on your computer's resources. Go through every folder, deleting everything you do not need. Leave no mail! Finish by emptying the Deleted Items folder.

Step 4

Turn off unnecessary programs. Check your taskbar for icons that show running programs. Disable anything you are not currently using.

Run Maintenance

Step 1

Run the Disk Cleanup tool located in your Control Panel. (Windows only. For other operating systems, please check the Resources section below.) This will remove temporary files, cookies and unnecessary components to speed up your computer.

Step 2

Defragment your computer. Defragging takes some time, but will speed your computer significantly. You can find the tool in your Control Panel. Run it monthly.

Step 3

Check for disk errors. Sometimes corrupted files slow down your computer. To find and fix these files, Go to My Computer and right-click on C drive. Choose Properties, then Tools.

My pc.. desktop is very slow.. its a windows vista

You may want to look into upgrading your RAM if there is less than 2GB installed. This is a recommendation that I have found in working with several PC's running this Operating System. Also, you would want to run disk clean up and remove any temporary files that Windows finds. Deleting any other temporary or unused files from your PC on a regular basis should increase system performance. In addition, if these steps do not solve your problem, you may want to consider upgrading to a faster performance hard drive (preferably a SATA II with a 32MB cache). As a last resort, you may look at your CPU to see if there is an upgrade for it, as well. Keep in mind that Vista is a resource hog and can slow down a PC within just a short period of time.
