If you copy something that is smaller than the paper you are printing on, this will happen, especially with a book. The copier will copy everything within the sensor range, and if there are no area to copy, it will scan in the blank space. With a book, the cover will be elevated, and the sensor will pick up the "black" border you are talking about and copy it to the paper.

I refilled the ink with a refill kit

You can't reset the ink level on all Canon Pixma printers. You need to turn off the function on printer to show the ink level. On your printer this happen with push consistently buttons for black copy (for turn of level on black cartridge) and color copy (for turn of level in color cartridge). The printer
shows empty cartridges but it will printing.

Have a Canon PIXMA MP150, just recently replaced the Black ink cartridge. When I make copies I will press the black ink button for my black copies but the only light that come on is the color ink button. ...

the problem occurs mainly due to following reasons

clogged catridge head
*clean it using ammonia solvent

bad contact of catridge terminals
*clean the contacts of both catridge and catridge holder

Dark border one side of paper

This maybe your cleaning blade, your drum or the fuser unit....the best way to find out is to make a copy a to stop it before it's getting to the fuser unit ( that's the thing very hot). If you see your border it's your cleaning or drum...But when you replace a drum you must replace the cleaning blade to !

Hope it help !

Prints grey not black

I solved this problem but probably not what the printer manufacturer would recommend! The reason you are just getting grey is that the black ink cartridge is either empty or dried out from non use and only the color cartridge is working. I had the same problem after being away for 5 months. I put the printer cartridge in a bowl of warm water to disolve the dried out ink on the print pad. I dried off the cartridge with a soft cloth and then it worked perfectly.

Colors not print well

This could be because of a defective valve.

DO NOT CLEAN THE PIEZO PH WITH ANY SOLUTION EXCEPT ORINIGNAL BROTHER INK!!!! OTHERWISE YOU WILL DEFENETLY DESTROY THE PH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try this:

Place new carts into machine and make sure thy are secured.

Press menu then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow up. machine will be in maintenance mode and lights will flash. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk copy. machine will refresh ink within tubes and ph and do some cleaning. when done press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk copy. machine will do a power purge.
Leave maintenance afterwards by pressing 9 then 9. Do run a test print by pressing ink etc.
If you still cant see any yellow and/or magenta the ph is defective and needs replacement.
