SIDE BY SIDE Frig & freezer

We have a GE side by side fridge & freezer approx.two years old which is making a hooting noise(lke a owl) near the top of the freezer unit, the noise seems to happen towards the evening hours not during the day. This problem all started after the freezer door was left partway open one evening which resulted in the freezer to defrost

I called GE customer service and asked them if there was any type of recall or repair program for my Frig, ModelGSS22JERFWW, To my surprise they checked and sent a GE repair person out and repaired my Frig for free, no more whooting noise. cause control board!!!!

Hurlsdad.

Sounds like a noisy evaporator fan. Take the shelves out ot the freezer then take the panels on the back wall of the freezer off. The fan will be there. Then you will know for sure thats the source of the noise. When it is time to replace it...easy fix. (few screws) Here is an excellent source for the part..www.repairclinic.com. My favorite place for appliance parts.

hope this is helpful,

My water dispenser quit working on my GE GSH25JFTAW side by side frig (I believe 4 years old). When I defrosted the freezer (because the fan was making a howling noise) and re-assemble it, the water...

Most likely the water line inside the freezer door is frozen( very common problem.. No long term fix out there other than defrosting the line(you did that when you defrosted the whole fridge) the trick is to run the water a lot the first day or so..sensors and motherboard have nothing to do with that..

Frig not very cold & metal between freezer and frig gets hot

Poor cooling and a hot divider mean that air is not moving effectively over the condenser coils under the fridge. Check to see if the fan is blowing under there while the compressor is running. If not, then the condenser fan has failed and needs to be replaced. If it is, then use a vacuum with a long nozzle to give it a good cleaning under there.

FRIG DOEN'T GET COLDER THAN 49, WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM,FREEZER WORKS GREAT (GE PROFILE) ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD-

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp control. Make sure the fan is running when the compressor runs. Make sure the vent(damper) opens and closes as you adjust the fridge temp control.

In our 22 cu ft GE SxS fridge /freezer, the freezer fan speeds up and slows down frequently and creates a whoooing sound like a quiet hoot owl when reaching the peak speed of the speed up phase of the ebb...

I have had some of these units making noises like this. One I found was leaking water down from the water inlet tube and in behind the ice maker and behind another panel that shoots up to the ice maker and building up behind that panel and causing a whistling sound. Removing the ice build up solved this one problem but couldn't find solution to the problem for the other. Dismissed it to change in the weather and expanding and contracting of the liner of the unit. Hope this helps.

Frig side is not cooling.

Check if there is frost on the back wall of the freezer, if so it is not defrosting. Many GE fridges need a new defrost heater every couple of years. If it's not defrosting, you can get by for a while by unplugging the fridge and leaving the freezer door open for 24 hrs, then plugging back in.

GE side by side Refrigerator approx. 8 years old. Fridge side barely cold.

With your fridge, does the light go out when you shut the refrigerator door?
That could be your issue, that light running inside will create Alot of heat.
Also check to see if there is air circulating from the freezer to the fridge side through the damper. The damper is on the Fridge side left wall up towards the top. That is where the cold air gets to the fridge side. If that damper doesn't open that will also cause your problem, Let me know how you make out.
