Neptune Washer - mold issue

I wasn't aware of this precise issue until yesterday, but this explains the black or grease splatter looking spots I have on my clothes. Apparently I have the same issue with my Neptune Washer (came with the house) and just talked to a repair guy who worked on those washers. There have been class action suits because of the propensity of the machines to do this.
His suggestion was to use white vinegar and very hot water to and to run this through a wash cycle with old towels or clean rags. This makes sense because it would acidify the environment and reduce the mold.
I also used surface wipes to clean the rubber ring but remember that the water is also at the bottom of the machine, not just around the ring. The repair guy said he would NEVER own a front loader for that specific reason.

My other suggestion is to wash darks first when you wash for the first time after a period of inactivity (or do a pre-wash) so that any mold that built up while you werent there is washed away or doesnt stain your whites or lightly colored fabrics.

Once a month toss a cup of Cascade dish detergent in washer and one cup of bleach. Run wash cycle for 5 minutes. Then pause and start again and let go thru entire wash cycle. Never had a mold or any problem with following this maintenance plan.

I have a Kenmore Top Loading High Efficiency Low water washer (Model 2130) and I noticed this weekend black splatter spots under the washer. When I moved the washer, grease was all under the washer.

Hi Geoff, your washer has a bad tub bearing. Depending on the age of the unit and how much you paid for it,you might want to go shopping for a new one. The bearing is pressed into the tub at the factory and is almost impossible to remove without damaging the outer tub. The outer tub can be replaced but is a time consuming job,so most companies charge a lot because you have to strip down the whole machine. Hope that helps.

Clothes with black mold after wash leaves black spots. Are they safe to wear without doing special treatment. Will the black spots harm you?

It might not be black mould - it could be grease spots from a failing main bearing.

Whether mould, grease or a combination it is unlikely to cause problems for a person with normal tolerance to such things, especially if not worn next to sensitive areas.

Whether grease or mould, it seems as though your washer could use some love and affection.

My clothes are coming out of my Neptune Maytag Washer with little black spots I always dry the washer and have no mold issues that I am aware of. What could be causing these spots?

Hello, unfortunately this was a common problem with that machine , the seal and bearing in the washer tub is worn and the grease is leaking out of the bearing and seal and is getting on your clothes. This is not a cheap repair, in fact I would recommend at this point to purchase a new or even a used washer from a shop that gives you a decent warranty.

My maytag neptune washer has black residue on the seal. I have tried everything & nothing seems to take it off. I am now concerned that it is mold. Has anyone experienced this same problem?

Greasy looking spots on clothing after washing/drying.

Without seeing the spots, this is a bit speculative, but here goes,......
I'm guessing that the spots are only found on the front side, primarily of shirts, or blouses, etc. These are from grease splatters from cooking, which many times only show up after washing and drying.
The soap releases some dirt, which is attracted to the non-removed grease spot, allowing it to show up. Re-wash the clothing, pre-spotting those areas with a citrus pre-spotter.

Black mold on washer door seal

this is a very common problem with the neptune washers.
use a javex and hot water solution and scrub the rubber boot.
you should also do an acid wash. (hot wash with bleach, and no clothes) if there is mold on the boot it is inside the washer as well.

There is a way to prevent this. when the washer is not in use, hang a small towl on the washer door, and do not close the door.
this will allow for air movement in the washer

Maytag front loader washing machine. Mould

How old is the washer? Did you try straight bleach on a towel and placed over the "mold" spot for about 5 minutes, be sure to wear gloves. Then scrub with a small brush being careful not to splatter bleach on yourself and rinse well. May need to replace the seal. I always leave the door cracked open after every use to "dry" out the inside and the boot. I also leave the drawer pulled out when not in use for that area to dry out as well. I have never had mold on the door seal of my Neptune washers, only the water holes above the dispenser drawer.

Maytag Neptune Washer dispenser unit has mold and mildew inside top of dispenser compartment.

You can pour the bleach in the drawer every time you do white loads and it will stay clear too!
Just flush it out good before you do colored clothes or you may get a small bleach spot on a red shirt !
