I work with a Lindhaus commercial vacuum and cannot seem to get a height adjustment working. It is sitting too low so it is very difficult to vacuum a medium density commercial carpet.

I only ever owned one Lindhaus upright vacuum and it was many years ago so I don't know how to advise you how to fix the height adjustment - perhaps there is a maintenance guy somewhere close by.

The tv adverts showing an upright cleaner gliding over a carpet without apparent effort just doesn't happen if the cleaner is working right. What the adverts are presenting is a carpet sweeper but what you buy is a vacuum cleaner and sweeper.

When it is working right an upright cleaner actually pulls the carpet clear of the floor by a small amount and seals it against the mouth of the brush housing so air is pulled through the fabric of the carpet as the brush agitates the pile. This makes cleaning more efficient but it takes much more effort to push than the adverts suggest.

When I vacuum a relatively new carpet I cannot push the vacuum because the suction is so strong. It works fine on my other carpets. Is there any way to adjust the suction?

You probably need to adjust the height. I don't know the make or model number of your vacuum to know if your model is adjustable.

New carpet is very thick. Hard to push vacuum. Is there an adjustment to allow more air?

Your vacuum should have and adjustment for the "depth of pile" of the carpet.
If it has no such thing at all, ( a few do not,) one solution is to pull it backwards slowly instead of pushing it.
It should clean forwards as well as backwards for you.
God bless your efforts.

Worked well until purchased new thick carpet, now can't push it.cleaned &changed all filters. cleaned brush. tried removing rubber string gasket. no help .

Barry,
Most vacuum cleaners will not roll well on real thick carpets. There are only a couple of vacuums out there that will work on thick carpet. The Oreck Magnesium models and most of the Miele vacuums will work on thick carpet and some manufacturers of carpet will tell you to use one of those two brands. Hope this helps!

We had an older dyson vacuum that worked great until it had to be replaced and now our new one it works great on short carpet but is very difficult to push on thicker carpet.

Hi Ronnie, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your new Dyson vacuum on this particular type of deeper-pile carpet. It's possible your new machine has higher suction at the cleaner head, and this could mean it needs slightly higher push-force on certain carpets with deeper, denser pile, or thick underlay. You may find it helps to use the vacuum with the brush bar switched - carpet manufacturers will sometimes advise vacuuming deep-pile carpets in this way.

However, I would encourage you to get in touch with us directly so we can take some further details about the issue. When you have your Dyson vacuum easily to hand, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). Our experts will be happy to discuss your concerns.

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

I can't push my Dyson Dc33 on my new carpet..it works backwards ok but not pushing forward?

Hi Fran, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33 is engineered to work effectively on both hard and carpeted flooring. The cleaner head is engineered to adjust automatically for different floor types and carpet piles. You can also turn off the brush bar for hard floors and delicate rugs, using the brush control on the cleaner head.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty pushing your machine forward on this particular type of new carpeting. If your DC33 worked effectively before the new carpeting was fitted, it doesn't sound like there's an issue with the vacuum itself. However, we'd appreciate the opportunity to take some further details about the issue, and may be able to suggest a resolution. You may also want to consider contacting the carpeting manufacturer directly, as they should be able to recommend the best way of caring for this specific carpeting.

When you have your DC33 easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

How do I adjust the height of the brushes and suction

look for a blockage -something may have dislodged the lever mechanism, or be stuck preventing the roller or position leaver from moving.

Just purchased a new Dyson animal vacuum and cannot push it thru the carpeting. I have it set to the highest pile carpeting but it is impossible to push. Seems to work fine on less thick carpeting.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties using your Dyson cleaner on this particular carpet. You may want to contact your carpet manufacturer to check it's suitable for cleaning with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a revolving brush. Manufacturers sometimes recommend cleaning certain types of carpeting using suction only.

If you have any further queries about using or maintaining your Dyson vacuum cleaner, please get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to provide the information and assistance you need. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack

I have a Sebo x1. It will not pick up from the head.

Hi
If the wheel isn't moving when the upright handle is swung down normally then the hydrallic action will be broken. The wheel only adjusts to the carpet when the handle is swung down and the wheel goes to the highest position. HOWEVER if you have large pile / thick carpeting then the X1 will struggle to pick this up as it doesn't cope well with thick carpeting. Sebo's G1 series with a manual adjuster dial is better in that respect. Put back the wheel as normal and check that it is lowering once the handle is unlocked. If it doesn't show up with the lights on the front of the hood showing that the wheel is going down, then its either the carpet thickness or the hydrallic wheel mechanism is broken. Contact Sebo in your country and they can usually send out a line diagram or suggest a repair.
