Three or four times during the wash cycle of my Kenmore Elite dishwasher, the unit makes a loud spitting or sputtering sound, akin to that of an outdoor sprinkler. The noise is hard to describe in any other terms but imagine a machine gun or "motor boat" noise that can be heard in the pipes throughout the house. Perhaps it's water hammmering but this just started recently and is disconcerting as I am concerned that the sputtering could rattle the pipe joints. No water is leaking and the unit appears to do its job but the spitting noise is obviously not normal. Is the spinning arm clogged? I am fairly handy and can likely fix the issue if someone could point me in the right direction.
The easiest way to confirm if the arms are blocked is by turning all the arms in the machine to a certain same position and running the machine for a few minutes in its wash cycle. Open the door and see if the arms have moved. If not, check all the holes in the arms for blockages. Sometimes its very difficult to clean them. You may have to poke a pin or something into hole and then shake the obstruction out through the large inlet hole under the spray arm itself.

Clarification on the noise I am describing: it is the machine gun noise of water pipe hammering. Intake valve issue?
