    Hi there.
With WinXP go to the control panel select security center, click on manage security settings for windows firewall, click on the advanced tab and then click on restore defaults, it will give you a warning but click ok and it will reset.
With Vista go to the control panel select security center, in the top left of the window click on windows firewall, then select change settings, click on the advanced tab and carry on just like with XP.
When you have reset the firewall to defaults its recommended you restart the PC.
Please post back with the results and thanks for using FixYa!!

Why after installing webroot on my hp pavilion with windows 7 I can not connect to Internet it says " unable to connect to proxy server" ?

The anti-virus has set up a firewall which has disabled your internet access. Go into your Webroot console and go to settings and firewall and set it to make an exception for incoming network connections.

When using internet my pc hang

use WinsockFix will solve your problem, if you using Win XP click Here to download it.

Read this for Vista :

When Winsock corrupts, the networking errors that you may face include unable to surf the Internet with “Page cannot be displayed” error message in Internet Explorer or AOL even though the DSL/ADSL/cable Internet connection is connected. Sometimes, Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service is terminated as well. To repair and reset the Windows Vista
  1. Click on Start button.
  2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
  3. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request.
  4. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

What I would do is go to control panel and click on the firewall and see if it is stopping you. If that does not work I would contact the Live IT sipport and see if it is on their end. Thank you for using Fixya

Unable to connect to internet on vista via wireless router

Welcome to FixYa! Vista is not access friendly but you will able to see your connection status by clicking on the network connection icon on the taskbar where you will see "Connected to: " and if you click on that a network map will appear. You will see a red "X" between your wireless access point icon and your Internet icon if the access status is "Local only". Clicking on the Internet icon will retry that connection. Make sure that your ip address is not 169.xxx.xx.x as that is Windows little way of saying it can't connect.
If you choose the Diagnose option it will do a release/renew operation automatically. With Vista you must "elevate" access by right clicking on the Command prompt executable and choose "Run as administator" if you wish to do that ipconfig manually.
Also when you are in the firewall configuration select the wireless connection>settings and make sure all of the permissions boxes are checked (ICMP, etc.)
With the adaptor advanced settings make sure your adaptor has the wireless mode (a, b, g, n) at the correct mode.
Have you tried logging on to the router via the Run bar? That is the most informative way to see your router config. Please repost if you need help with that. I also am a network professional certified since 1978 so I know that Vista defies using many tools we took for granted for so many years and often makes me feel frustrated. Maybe Windows 7 will be better as I only run Vista to help others like yourself, though at least you can understand what I am talking about:) Good luck, Steve Medley
