Samantha I really will like to know what you guys come up with. Two years old and this happening I would think you should get GE to at the least pay for the parts. I was shooting in the dark to some extent with my diagnosis without the service manual but knowing GE's problems with their motherboards does help point there as a very likely possibility. I have not even found a wiring diagram for your GFSS6KKYSS as of yet. There should be one tucked away behind the kick plate or near the compressor on yours. Let me know what happens, Thanks John Tripp

JOhn I'm on phone and i'm only 2 months out of warranty!! they are sending me a new motherboard for free..i hope thats all i needed..:?

  • Samantha Sep 03, 2013

So they are sending me 2 boards one big and one small.

Samantha that is great that GE is sending two boards. Keep them both because one day a few years from now you may need an extra control board should you have an electrical storm, power surge or just a failed capacitor that is mounted on the boards. Burned out capacitors tend to swell and create a round top when they go bad. It's not all gloom and doom because the electronics are what gives the extra features that standard refrigerators do not have. The price you pay for a refrigerator with all electronic features is a possible board failure. But the refrigerator is more economical according to GE. Your brother appears to be sharp when it comes to electronics. If the boards don't solve the problem you are welcome to contact me , Thanks John Tripp

  • Samantha Aug 30, 2013

shouldn't we hear the fan? and on the back of the fridge is the el;ectric panel is there a guidline to this?

  • Samantha Aug 30, 2013

so basically the the fan in the back wall of the fride isn't it suppose to kick in right away? or is there an amount of time we are to wait to know if it's going to work properly?

Press the light switch in while the door is open and listen for the fan. The fan should be on any time the compressor is running. Did he remove the cover around the fan and possibly disconnect the wiring going to the fan? Are you sure that all the ice has melted and not blocking the fans movement? If pressing the light switch in does not cause the fan to run then you will need to remove the cover so you can find what is causing the fan to not run. I am here as long as you need. Thanks John Tripp

JOhn thank you cause were just standing by waiting for your guidance. My fridge has a hindge activated light switch hence i thing we can't find it..i have the button on my control panel I have an alarm/light but no button..do you know how to get my button?

my brother has the door slightly ajar with no light on but here's no fan starting..hence we can't find a switch..it's in the hindge?

  • Samantha Aug 30, 2013

we don't need to pull the whole top off do we?

  • Samantha Aug 30, 2013

just to make it clear the compressor is running and the fan with the compressor just not the fan in the fridge in the back

  • John Tripp

The fans are located in the freezer section behind the rear panel inside the back wall of the freezer

I am continuing my search for a GFSS6KKY Service Manual and so far the problem points to the motherboard. Let me know what you find and I will also should I find a service manual. Nice talking to you guys out there in Washington! Thanks John Tripp

Just thought of something overnight, I would like your brother to test the two electric fan motors outside of the refrigerator to insure that one did not short and cause the new motherboard to fail. Thanks JT

I hope it works also! I have a manual that is said to work for your model. The letters are a litle different but a friend of mine on another site says the manual is the same. Give it a try and see if your brother can use this manual at the link below. Thanks John Tripp http://appliance911seabreeze.com/GE_PFSS...

SOURCE: Freezer not freezing

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Testimonial: " Thanks for the help. I'm pretty sure its the defrost timer. This will probaly save me a ton of money."

SOURCE: Ge side by side I have to keep defrosting the

Do this when the refrig starts to warm up . Don't defrost before this test .
Pull the refrig out and remove the 8 " x 10 " panel . Behind this panel , is the main control board . Unplug the refrig . Remove the BLUE plug from the board , with 3 larger wires going to it . Looking at the blue plug , the sequence will be wire1,wire2,space,wire3 . Get a short piece of insulated wire , and strip about 1/4 inch from each end . Insert 1 end into wire2 , and the other into wire3 . Plug the refrig back in . After about 3 min , look in the freezer , at the bottom , behind the crisper , look for a red glow . If no red glow , unplug the refrig , and reassemble the plug and cover . This no glow , indicates a shorted defrost heater WR51X10055 . It is also advisable to replace the defrost thermostat ( pt. number WR50X10068 ) when replacing the heater . To access these parts , you will have to remove the inside rear wall of the freezer . The heater , is at the bottom of the coils , held on with 2 screws , and the thermostat , is the 1 " cylinder , with a blue and pink wire going to it , clipped on the top left of the coils .
If you do get a red glow , then the # 4 thermistor is bad . This tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp and when to cycle off due to selected temperature .

I have a Beko frost free fridge freezer kept in a garage that has all of a sudden just stopped working. I noticed that the bread I'd put in the freezer hadn't frozen and then noticed that the fan had...

If the fan has failed or intermittent, the freezer wont freeze the food properly but usually you get a mountain of ice build up at the back of the freezer. This ice jams and stops the fan from turning. Alternatively, there could be a defrost problem. Unless it is a fully electronic defrost machine, there is usually a little timer on the back of the fridge to force a defrost after a certain time. The fridge will turn off, the defrost heater operates to melt the ice and then usually with 20 to 45 minutes, the defrost timer will "click" back on and start the fridge running again. If the timer is sticking, the fridge may stay on its defrost cycle and never start again, thus, it doesn't get cold. If you find the defrost timer, have a close look for a little shaft or slotted screw type stud sticking out of the middle of it. A slight turn of this and you should hear it clicking around. When you hear a loud click, that is either the start or end of the defrost cycle. If you have a full electronic defrost system, it may be a failed board, heater, thermostat or defrost safety fuse.

Freezer is working properly but fridge is not staying cold?

is the fan on in the freezer?? if not then you need a new evap fan..also check to see if there is frost build up on the back panel in the freezer section if so then you have a defrost issue could be a bad heater..to bandaid the problem..defrost the freezer back panel so air can flow into fridge side, but you will need to address the problem within a week or it will build up again

Fridge not getting cold...but freezer is working

the fridge gets its cold air from the freezer fan blowing it through small air passages between the freezer and fridge. when you adjust the temperature in the fridge you are increasing/decreasing the amount of air being let into the fridge. Two common problems that could cause the freezer to freeze but not the fridge getting cool is the freezer coil is frooze like a ice cube blocking the air going to the fridge or freezer fan is not working could be bad or froze up due to too much ice. If fan works after manually defrosting problem could be in the auto defrost mechanism. If fan don't work after manual defrost replace fan. Manual defrost by putting a pot of very hot water in freezer with door closed change water foten until defrosted.

What should I check if the refrigerator is not cooling/working, but the freezer works fine?

first off what kind of frige and model number, the freezer feeds the fridge so no cold air is being blown into the fridge section from the freezer, open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you could have a bad evap fan motor, put your hand on the back wall of the freezer,if there's ice or like snow on it you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, timer or board depending on the machine, this is why i need the model number, also on some machines there is a damper that opens and closes to let the cold air into fridge section or the door was left open and the air vents are froze up,most common on bottom mount freezers, look at the freezer ceiling and packages,if you see frozen water droplets on the ceiling or packages it's a sure sign the door was left open.hope this helps.

Freezer works great and frig. has no air at all comming out. compressor ok and fan next to compressor is ok. cleanned all around vents and still nothing. do not hear a fan in frig. where is fan located...

Sounds like your defrost timer may have gone bad. Feel your walls and if they
are hard with no give then the fridge is froze up solid not allowing any air to
circulate. Try this: Unplug for 24-48 hours. Place towels on floor to **** up
water. Plug back in. If the fridge gets cold then the defrost timer is bad.
Unfortunately this is not a cheap fix and consideration may have to be given on
replacing your unit.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. Don't forget to rate me.

Hi,
After defrosting, take compressed air and actually make sure that you can blow air through the tube....if the tube is open then there is no way that the water should not be going down....

Bosch Classixx fridge / freezer

Hi - experienced this myself and spent ages trying to get to the bottom of it - only found one post but it worked and was absolutely clear on the cause nb: i'm not an "expert" !

My understanding of how the Bosch f/f works is that the freezer compartment generates the cold air for the fridge which is regulared at the fridge end . At the back of my fridge there are two "vents" which feed up this cold air up from the freezer into the fridge.

Problem happened to me because I left the freezer door slightly ajar which generated a massive amount of frost (sucking in the moist air from the house I guess then freezing it) and subsequent ice froze up the cooling ducts between the freezer and the fridge. Therefore, no matter how much I turned up the fridge thermo it never got cool. Only solution was to dump my frozen at a mates house and defrost the the FREEZER for a good 24 hrs +.

Worked tho' - fridge was completely back to normal.

PS: I understand this issue may also happen if you put too much unfrozen food into the freezer at one go and in working overtime to get it frozen causing a massive frost up again.
