Is the fan on in the freezer?? if not then you need a new evap fan..also check to see if there is frost build up on the back panel in the freezer section if so then you have a defrost issue could be a bad heater..to bandaid the problem..defrost the freezer back panel so air can flow into fridge side, but you will need to address the problem within a week or it will build up again

SOURCE: freezer/fridge won't get cold enough

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.

the thermostat in the fridge is turning off your compressor before the freezer has completed its job.this is because it doesnt care about the freezer temperature only the temperature where its located in this case the fridge, try completely defrosting the fridge and restarting it

SOURCE: GE TFX26KRDA WW 2001 side by side refrig/freezer w warm fridge

Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.

SOURCE: freezer works fine, fridge cool not cold.

if the freezer is freezing and the fan working in the freezer and the fan at the compressor is working and you have no frost build up on the back wall of the freezer caused from a defrost problem -then turn your controls back to the middle. one of the controls is a thermostat control and the other control is merely an air diverter from the freezer to the refrigerator. if you close this diverter down too much (by putting it on 9)it will leave most of the air in the freezer.

bottom line if the freezer is working properly and freezing good all the time then the refrigerator should be ok as well unless you have diverted most air to the freezer. allow 24 hours after you have changed the settings.

you can feel air blowing in the back of the refrigerator at the top next to the freezer and can adjust the diverter control and feel the difference it makes. most of the time the control you use is labeled freezer and if you put both controls on 9 then your freezer will be the coldest but the refrigerator won't get as much air. the thermostat control can be left at 5 or higher (this is the control that turns the refrigerator off) but leave the other control at 5

if this doesn't work you have probably got problems with your freezer also and may not know it yet.

Hello, my LG Refrigerator (lmx28988st) is acting up. The fridge stays cold, but the freezer won't freeze (its stays around 45F). It has the french doors for the fridge, 2 drawers for bottom freezer.

Have you confirmed the freezer door switch is functional? If this switch fails to detect the door is shut (you may or may not get an alarm), the unit will fail to cool properly. Meaning the actuator will not allow cold air to be diverted to the freezer.

If all else fails, you may try contacting LG directly by clicking here:

Amana fridge is not cold but freezer is working

If freezer is ok and cooling ( 5 degrees or less) one thing you might want to check is that the flow of cold air to refrigerator is not obstructed by the items in your freezer. The ductwork has to be available. Also check the opening of the damper if fridge is not cold enough. And is the fan operating at full speed - are the bearings dirty and slowing it down?
Also check your freezer temp - there are degrees of freezing. Water freezes at 32 degrees but a good freezer should go down to about zero. And the colder your freezer air is the colder your fridge will be.

Hi.. feel the dividing rdge between fridge and freezer.. is it warm?.. chances are that the little fan at the back of the fridge freezer that helps cool the compressor, has snagged own it's own wire... it's a weak fan, like you get in a computer, but it does a lot of work.. without it, the coolent does not do it's job, which results in your device not cooling things properly

The freezer side does not freeze on the top shelf. The refrigerator freezes everything in the bottom but reads 47 degrees and doesn't cool the top shelves. The fan under the fridge runs fine.

Behind the back wall of the freezer about halfway down, probably behind the light bulb (if there is one there) there is a fan. My guess is that the fan isn't working, or is slow. To test, open the freezer door, then hold the door switch closed and listen for the fan.

This fan should be blowing air up the back of the freezer, and send some of the cold air through a vent at the top of the freezer into the fridge. The air then descends through the fridge and reenters the freezer through a vent at the bottom. If the fan is broken, or if the upper vent is somehow blocked or broken, the cold air will enter (rather than exit) the fridge side at the bottom vent. Because cold air tends to descend and warm air rises, the cold air will freeze the stuff at the bottom of the fridge, and the thermostat (at the top of the fridge) will say it is warm.

This can happen if the fan motor in the freezer compartment is bad. Causes the freezer section to freeze up and you will not get air circulating, so no cooling. Check the fanmotor

You have a defrost problem. The fridge gets cold air from freezer, if ice blocking from no defrost, no fridge temperature.

Freezer not freezing food and fridge not staying cold enough

Check the compressor with a volt meter, if the compressor is getting proper voltage then check the relay. But this sounds like a problem with the compressor
