Vista will not recognize Sony trv730 firewire

Tried everything. Vista will not see this Sony trv730 camcorder. Sony claims driver is already included in Vista Home system. But several cabels have been tried and every service on and off, and Vista just sits there.

I am using FIREWIRE not USB

  • dkeeton11 Jan 15, 2009

TRV730 also has no streaming option on the camera. USB is only for transfering clips and photos from the Memory Stick

  • dkeeton11 Jan 15, 2009

    from sony web site

"The USB streaming feature is not supported with Windows Vista operating system."

  • dkeeton11 Jan 15, 2009

Did that already. Chatted with Sony. Nothing they can do either. Suggested I buy another Vista Machine and try that. Before Microsoft comes out with another half - assed operating system, they should make this one work. Never again will I be ripped off by HP and Microsoft. Vista has given me nothing but heartache and trouble. Tired of being their research engineer and not getting paid for it.

  • dkeeton11 Jan 15, 2009

Yes. I also updated Fire wire driver .. says I have the current version. Alesis Firewire audio mixer works perfectly on the port, but the Sony camcorder ... NOTHING! Even tried uninstalling the fire wire in the device manager and reinstalling...NOTHING.

  • dkeeton11 Jan 15, 2009

Yes! I have two dvd recorders, one is a Sony with a firewire input. If I hook the camcorder to the recorder it should rec the dv from the camera. But the VISTA should do what Sony claims and not send me chasing my tail in hopes to catch it. Some day I will learn, but not today!

  • dkeeton11 Jan 15, 2009

Well being an electronics engineer can have it's advantages. But sometimes I look in the wrong direction. I hooked up the camera to the dvd recorder and you guessed it...NOTHING. Took the cam apart and found the two center pins on the FW jack pushed in and not making connection. I have the parts from another cam and am installing a used jack from a canon zr20. I am pretty confident the prob has been solved. we'll know in about 15 mins.

    well i'm stumped no change

I had the same problem but I also needed software to use with the videos, so after I installed Pinnacle Studio 12 the problem was solved. When you click on capture video in the program you are able to control the vcr and record from it. I am not entirely pleased with the video quality but it did work. Hope this helps.

Make sure to Enable USB Streaming option available in Camera Menu. Connect camera with PC and Vista will recognize it.

Correct, update driver of iLink / DV / IEEE1394 fire-wire card / port in computer as there is no apparent reason of no response of Vista.

So camcorder was working fine on XP?

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2009

Since Vista is not supporting this camcorder I would suggest an alternate. Hook camcorder with DVD Recorder and burn DVD. Now you can transfer video files in Vista computer and can do desired work.

Well, sitting far away I just can suggest and share these thoughts, rest is your own skills and I hope you will sort it out soon.

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2009

I didn't suspected hardware of camcorder and its my mistake. I'm sure this would be problem of no response of Vista (incomplete communication)

ok, try to connect camera with another PC XP or Vista and confirm the iLink connector.

I need drivers for my Sony DCR-HC24 for Windows Vista, Sony support Web don't have. Thank You Regards Jaume

Your Sony Camcorder was basically setup to work with Windows XP, in that timeframe, and making it work with Windows Vista could be problematic. However, you may be able to make everything work by using the i.Link connection on the camera to a i.Link card on a desktop PC. Sony says this might work in Vista if you upgrade your original software. As far as drivers for the IEEE-1394 card, they are mostly already built-in in Microsoft Windows XP, VISTA etc. and should be no problem. If you do not already have a firewire card, get one from Amazon online.

Firewire on Inspiron - Connecting Canon MD 120 camcorder

Browsing over the md120 specs, included should be a software disc for the usb connector, so it shouldn't matter whether you use an adapter or the 4 to 4 cable. This disc will have the drivers and software for using the camera in conjunction with your laptop. Have you tried this download for the camera.
    http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010449.asp

Also check out this link. Towards the bottom under additional features it lists software, drivers and utilities, and at the bottom under supplied accessories it lists application software/usb driver. Go to the store you purchased this at or contact Cannon support and get the disc that was supposed to be included.
