XP Pro w /firewire not recognizing Sony DCR-TRV730

My Sony DCR-TRV730 camera is not being rcognized by my computer. I am using XP Pro with firewire.
The firewire card works with another device.
I tried the camcorder on another XP Pro computer with firewire and it also does not recognize the camcorder.
An Email to Sony resulted in that XP should recognize the camcorder and there are no special drivers needed.

XP Pro doesn't acknowlege the camera (sony DCR-TRV730) at all. On my home computer the XP installation there sometimes, but rarely recognizes it, but not enough to actually use the connection.

    Windows XP Home SP3

    Dell Dimension 8200 desktop 2GHz

    512MB RAM

Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 video adapter

    Sony TRV730 video camera

Zonet 4+1 USB and 2+1 firewire PCI card

I had intermittent connection with the camera until updating to SP3 on XP. Windows Movie Maker never made it to the preview window when trying to capture data. No video or audio codecs installed outside what comes with XP or media player 11. I have not yet tried a new firewire cable or my camera on a different PC.

I had to reformate my hard drive and after doing so I have not been able to get my computer to recognize my DRC-TRV730 Digital 8 Camera. It was working fine before I formated the hard drive and everything else is working on my computer except for this.

I have the same problem with my camera. I have connected it to my XP Pro desktop computer and also to my laptop with vista business. neither computer sees the camera using the firewire. They connect using USB but that only works for the still camera part of the camera.

I had not used my camcorder for a while but it was recognized and transferred video just fine about 8 months ago. I tried different firewire cables but XP never recognizes it. My model is the TRV840. I guess the firewire port may have died but that seems strange since it has been sitting in the case the whole time.

Try a video card that supports current DirectX. Apparently it has an effect even if you capture without previewing the video. (worked for me, anyway).

Disconnect the battery from the cam, it possible that it has a pocessor that is lock up and if youleave the battery out for a while it will reset back to normal.

First install your pictures motion browser in laptop. Then paired them using firewire. You should see now the pop up info on your screen. Just click it to go further to download your photos. Or click your pictures motion browser manually to get download command. It is work quickly. NOTE : don't ever use other downloader software as it will work very very slow...

How to transfer files from sony digital video camera recorder dcr-trv265e pal to my windows xp computer?

If your camera has FireWire, you can install a FireWire card, Or USB "Dongle" into your PC, Or you can install a TV/Video "Capture" card Or USB dongle, to your PC, then using Video Capture Software, essentially, making the PC into a DVR, you can then record, and save it to disk, and then you can do with it whatever you wish.

Trying to transfer video from Sony Dig 8 to PC

Videos cant be held on memory stick. They are of huge size to fit into memory sticks.

Check if camera has the firewire port. If so, you can get a 4 pin firewire cable and connect to the PC.
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

4 pin firewire would look like this:

You can use the Movie maker to burn it to the Disk
