Sony handycam DCR-HC26 and mac not recognizing with firewire

Hi- I have a new MacBook and a Handycam as referenced above. Have tried everything to get camera to work in IMovie on Mac. Power cord plugged it, firewire attached, turned on camera then IMovie....camera is not recognized. It does say (actually blinking) "DV in" on LCD on camera......have tried another firewire, still doesn't work. I have reset my camera. Have called Sony and Apple (TWICE) and can't get the help i need! Any more suggestions?
thanks! Joni

I've heard that Sony Handycams are "notorious" for the firewire/iLink dying...

I have replaced a Windows XP PC with a new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium and I have not been able to connect my DCR-HC26 Sony Handycam digital tape camera to the new PC. I'm using an I-link (firewire)...

Mostly with these cameras you do not need driver (unless you use a USB cable) but like me you have firewire okay? so you should unplug your camera, turn your PC off for a min or two, plug camera in THEN yes THEN put your PC on, and the Win 7 will see your camera and loads setting it needs auto ok.

How to connect a macbook pro and a handycam DCR-DVD105.

If your cam has a firewire connection, you could plug it into the macbook and use iMovie to transfer the videos over. You can also get an external DVD drive to put those tiny DVDs into to transfer it over.
