How are you connecting the all-in-one to the computer? If it is a wired connection that has worked in the past, try a new data cable. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer. Can you launch a scan from the computer? What OS are you using on the computer?
Did you install the full software from HP? The software is available here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3235686& . The buttons will only work if the full software is installed, the destination and defaults are set in the software and a monitor program is running. If installed, lauch HP Solution Center and try to scan. If you get no scanner, then you may not have completed the installation. This may require using a wired USB connection and then installing additional drivers.
If you connected the USB cable before installing the software, uninstall the driver and then disconnect the data cable. Restart the computer and install the HP software then connect the USB cable again.
I hope this helps.
