After reading your question carefully it is still unclear that you are able to login (for 5 seconds) or not. If you can login to your PC and logout automatically then I think someone (with Admin rights) has enabled automatic logout feature (depending upon the time). On the other hand, if you are not able to login with your user name and password then there may be some problem with your password (perhaps you have forgotten it). In this situation you can reset it by using password recovery software (click http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Windows+Password+Recovery+Stellar to get password recovery software list).

So it logs you in and then logs you back out immediately? If that's the case try booting in safemode by hitting f8 during boot.

Paddy it seems windows login problem, may be you are not using correct user name or/and password or may be your password profile got currupted.

Anyway in your case as you have purchased it second hand, then you don't had have any specific program or file on the hard disk. So you can easily format your lap and installed new XP or Vista as per your requirement. It will solve your problem. But you should must have the device drivers to work and installed properly.

Yes if you will use new hard drive then you can install, but same things will be required as per above. So I will recommend you to install on same HDD don't buy new one.

If any problem, Just Ask me

Thanks
Iqbal

SOURCE: HP --Bioscrypt Verisoft fingerprint reader -- Error

Oh your going to hate me but unfortunately under vista if your credential manager gets corrupted the only way around is a total reimage - back to when it came out of the box. To do a full reimage using your recovery partition on power up to HP post screen tap F11 until the recovery manager starts - select advanced tab - full system recovery no backup - full destructive - this time when you get to your client details for setup after the recovery process select your password with care and when the time comes for for the finger print reader enabling under the credential manager the finger to use is your right small finger = the little pinkie >> it gets less work and is less prone to possible damage - small irregulaties are enough to fail a reading.
So I hope this helps but unfortunately a full destructive recovery is required.

SOURCE: replace worn touchpad buttons HP compaq 6820s

It's better and easier to just replace the whole touch pad assembly and top cover. It's all one piece...much easier and cost is the same.

SOURCE: How do I adjust the screen brightness on a HP

Hi, Actually, the problem here is you don?t have any options in windows XP to increase the brightness without using keyboard. HP does not provide any utility with the OS as it is OEM. Try this · Click on start > Click on control panel..... · Click on power options.... · Click on " Change settings plan "..... · Adjust the brightness and save the plan..... And exit... that should work.... OR Replace the keyboard and get the all things working

My power glitched, now when i try to log in to windows my password isn't recognized. i've tried everything.

By default xp has an unsecured adminstrator account. At the logon screen press Ctl + Alt + Del twice to bring up the standard logon dialogue box. Type the username "administrator" without the quotation marks. Leave the password empty. Press ok to login. Hopefully that gets you logged on to windows so you can reset your user account

Hi. The colour on my HP/Compaq 6820s laptop is a bit dull in comparison to my second extended Samsung monitor. I want to adjust the colour settings on the laptop, but all I can find on the keyboard is...

If you right hand mouse click on your desktop picture, a menu will become available. Click on Screen resolution and then Advanced settings. There will be options inside that window to allow you adjustment of the display.
Hope that helps.

How to remove logon window

The way to stop the logon window is to have only one user registered on the computer, and to remove the password from the login account. All of this can be achieved through Control Panel/user accounts. If this helps, please rate me! :)

How do I logon as administer

Hi,

The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled. In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.
To have the Administrator account displayed in the Welcome Screen, try one of these methods:
Method 1: Using TweakUI Power Toy for Windows XP Download TweakUI from here: v2.00 for Windows XP | v2.10 for XP SP1 and above
Open TweakUI and click "Logon" option in the left pane. Put a checkmark against the option "Show Administrator on Welcome Screen". Click OK to close TweakUI. Logoff and see if Welcome Screen lists Administrator login. Changes are immediate and you can use the Winkey + L to switch back to Welcome Screen to see Administrator account is listed.
Use this procedure to hide/unhide any user account from the Welcome Screen. Please remember, you can still login to a hidden account using CTRL+ALT+DEL classic logon method, but cannot Fast User Switch to a hidden user account.
Method 2 - Manual registry edit
  • Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
  • Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList
  • Use the File, Export option to backup the key
  • Create a new DWORD Value named Administrator
  • Double-click Administrator, and set 1 as its data
  • Exit the Registry Editor.
For Windows XP Home Edition While you can configure Windows XP Home Edition to show Administrator account in the Welcome Screen, you cannot login as Administrator in Normal mode. Visit the following link for more information:
Error Message: Unable to Log You on Because of an Account Restriction

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

How to i reset my password to get on my hp compaq 9030

if you are talking about the log on password for windows xp, when booting up, right before the windows XP logo comes up and it shows that its loading, press F8 like 3 times every second till a screen with writing comes up. If unsuccessful, keep trying, it should come up in 2 - 3 tries. Choose to boot in Safe Mode. when the logging screen comes up, log on Administrator. When logged on, go into control panel - user accounts - click on the account you want to remove password from and remove it. Restart PC, log in to the account, and that's it.

Hp nc6230

hello there,

U can try booting into Safe mode with networking option.

If you log into a limited account on your target machine and open up a dos prompt
then enter this set of commands Exactly:
cd\ *drops to root
cd\windows\system32 *directs to the system32 dir
mkdir temphack *creates the folder temphack
copy logon.scr temphack\logon.scr *backsup logon.scr
copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe *backsup cmd.exe
del logon.scr *deletes original logon.scr
rename cmd.exe logon.scr *renames cmd.exe to logon.scr
exit *quits dos
Now what you have just done is told the computer to backup the command program
and the screen saver file, then edits the settings so when the machine boots the
screen saver you will get an unprotected dos prompt with out logging into XP.
Once this happens if you enter this command minus the quotes
"net user <admin account name here> password"
If the Administrator Account is called Frank and you want the password blah enter this
"net user Frank blah"
and this changes the password on franks machine to blah and your in.
