I had turned the camera on, and was waiting to take a Christmas picture. The batteries were fine. After about fifteen seconds, the 43WR, which has been faultless so far, turned itself off and would not switch back on.
I have tried other batteries and cards, but the camera remains inoperative. I do not have an ac adapter with which to test that function.
Alan,
SOURCE: S5i won't turn on in Capture mode
Hi Aunty Edna. I had exactly the same problem with my S5I 4 weeks ago. Went out and bought another camera then decided had nothing to lose by doing heart segury on S5I. Found it has a watch battery soldered to board under memmory card holder which was flat. I replaced that with a similar battery and it fixed the problem. Its not an easy job but if you know someone good with there hands it would take about an hour.Hope this helps. Regards Andy
SOURCE: Unlock card
If the card is locked, you could the steps below:
- Turn off camera
- Remove memory card
- Take a look on the switch of the memory card itself
* If it's at the TOP = card is UNLOCKED
* If it's at the BOTTOM = card is LOCKED
- So, you just have to make sure that the switch is at the top
for the memory card to be UNLOCKED
After doing that, you just have to put back the memory card to your camera and turn on the camera. Try to check if this works.

Remove lens, locate silver vertical pin inside of mounting ring on left side as you are looking at camera. Lightly slide black plastic piece which is on the vertical pin downward; if it will go downward remount lens and try camera. If plastic piece will not go down, lightly slide it up and then down and now remount lens and try camera. My guess is that either that component is sometimes stuck or that it may have become mispositioned while removing and replacing a lens.

This is a common problem with this model...happens to me too. I find that turning it off and then on corrects it for awhile.
