When I press the power switch, the camera gives FOUR rapid beeps and does not turn on. If I press Playback at the same time, it will turn on and I can view the card. But as soon as I press Playback again to try and enter Capture mode, it turns off. The camera has not suffered damage and the battery is full. Any suggestions?
I also had this same problem. It wouldn't turn on so I figured I had nothing to lose by taking it apart. It is very difficult to get to the battery, and once i found it, I managed to remove the battery. I could not manage to soder on a new battery, so now there is no button cell battery in the camera. It now works fine, but every time I change the battery I have to reset the date and time. It beats buying a new camera though.
Hi Aunty Edna. I had exactly the same problem with my S5I 4 weeks ago. Went out and bought another camera then decided had nothing to lose by doing heart segury on S5I. Found it has a watch battery soldered to board under memmory card holder which was flat. I replaced that with a similar battery and it fixed the problem. Its not an easy job but if you know someone good with there hands it would take about an hour.Hope this helps. Regards Andy
To solve this
Put the camera about a half inch from a hard surface.
Let the lense go out and hit the surface and retract a little bit. Let it go out all the way when it tries the next time.
If that doesnt fix it, try this:
Turn it on and let the lense go out fully
See where the lens comes out of the camera? The little round crack that surrounds it? Wiggle the lense a bit and blow in there a bit. (Be sure not to blow on the lense!)
Now turn it off/on again, and it should be fixed
