My 65" rear projection has

  • john_candela Sep 25, 2011

My tv is an HD 1080 series. I have noticed that when the tv is turned on, the picture is fine, bit between 15-20 seconds it curves again. It switches back and forth between good and bad. Are you confident that it is the the convergence IC? If so, where would I be able to get one. I am in a rural area and the nearest metro is a couple hrs away. Is there anywhere you would suggest where i could send the motherboard or component to be repaired?

Good day!

First of all, before you proceed to the minor/major troubleshooting try to check first the cable signal and connection of it,if you are cable subscriber.Another thing is to play any movie or recorded shows to your TV to make sure that the problem is on your TV or on the signal.

If you already play the movie and the problem is still there.
Follow the procedure of troubleshooting to fix the problem:

  1. Remove the back cover by loosening all screws.
  2. After you open the cover, look for the convergence I.C-it is the one that have heat sink and stand on vertical position. The part # of that I.C is usually starts with the letter STK####.
  3. That convergence I.C controls the images and graphics.Replace it and check the resistors and other components near that I.C.Use a soldering iron and soldering ****** to replace the parts or components and multimeter tester (range on resistance).
  4. If you already replace the convergence I.C and check some component near that.Plug-in and power ON again to test if it is successful.
NOTE: Always double check the solder parts when you replace any parts or components to avoid short circuit or major damage.

Just add a comment for more query or if the problem is still unsolved.
I hope this solution will be helpful to fix your problem.
Thank you and good luck.

Borders bowed inward,blurred red,blue, & green

the next time it is not working go into the customer menu with remote and call up the convergence grid and look---there---if convergence is way off and or comes and goes---this set uses 2 Stk-392-570 ic's and it is quite common to see them become intermittant.

I have a rear projection Sony 52 " about 10 years old. The picture is good but there are blue curved lines.

The blue CRT is getting bad, you can try turning down the Blue CRT drive control slightly which may slow the progression down some, but eventually the Blue CRT will need to be replaced

No Picture on KDP65XBR2

You have a shorted blue CRT (picture tube) the lines you saw are called retrace lines and when you can see them, there's either a mis-adjustment of the screen settings to the CRTs or a circuit malfunction or in your case, a bad picture tube. If your TV's serial number starts off with 90..... then you have the defective CRTs Sony put in hundreds of thousands of their projection TVs from late 2001 thru 2003. They made a very poor attempt to resolve customer complaints for a short period of time but now they have left many consumers hanging because they claim they have no more of these CRTs left.

Also, regarding your Circuit City wrranty. Don't give up. These warranties are held by third party insurers mainly G.E Extended Warranties who are stalling for time until a bankruptsy judge forces them to take care of their customers. Contact your state's attorney general to complain and get info on how this will be resolved.

Good Luck!

Picture shows red/green/blue separatly and the images are curving at the sides

Greetings Mhsfl,

I also have a Mitsubishi rear projection and was having the same issues. You need to adjust your convergence. It is found in the setup menus on the television. What will happen is a big grid will come up and you will adjust the colors seperately until it looks like all white lines. It is something that a novice can do. My husband has actually become quite addicted to fixing the convergence on our television! It will need to be done periodically and particularly if you move your unit.

I hope this helps!

Thank you,

Dorothy
