20 Most Recent Mitsubishi WS-65903 65" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers

Good day!

First of all, before you proceed to the minor/major troubleshooting try to check first the cable signal and connection of it,if you are cable subscriber.Another thing is to play any movie or recorded shows to your TV to make sure that the problem is on your TV or on the signal.

If you already play the movie and the problem is still there.
Follow the procedure of troubleshooting to fix the problem:

  1. Remove the back cover by loosening all screws.
  2. After you open the cover, look for the convergence I.C-it is the one that have heat sink and stand on vertical position. The part # of that I.C is usually starts with the letter STK####.
  3. That convergence I.C controls the images and graphics.Replace it and check the resistors and other components near that I.C.Use a soldering iron and soldering ****** to replace the parts or components and multimeter tester (range on resistance).
  4. If you already replace the convergence I.C and check some component near that.Plug-in and power ON again to test if it is successful.
NOTE: Always double check the solder parts when you replace any parts or components to avoid short circuit or major damage.

Just add a comment for more query or if the problem is still unsolved.
I hope this solution will be helpful to fix your problem.
Thank you and good luck.

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hi,
If it is Mitsubishi WS-65903 rear projection tv then you should have service manual copy in hand to disassemble front screen safely, service manual has info with exploded view to do that.
Let me know tv model number to provide you service manual copy to clean screen (it has two or three layers) and rear mirror and lenses of picture tubes in tv.
Thanks.

bryan298,

Normally I would not recommend this as I try to repair everything, no matter how hard or long it takes, but this series, WS has some serious problems with the DM and power supply boards which are not supported by Mitsubishi any longer. Odds are that if you could repair the convergence problem your next problem would be no picture and a flashing standby light. For the complexity and costs involved to try to repair this unit I would suggest that you seriously look at getting a new unit. If you do go for a new unit please buy the extended warranty. The new units are less reliable than the one you have and won't last half as long. It should be money well spent.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating and testimonial.

Furst of all those things you call Lamps are Picture Tubes RED/Green/Blue, Cost of each Tube is over $400.00 Tubes Do Not need to be replaced unless they are Shorted, which means they would ark out and TV would shut down. The only thing you need to Replace is the STK ICS , they are Big Black ICs and will have the Part number on them STK393-110 replace both of them .
Mats Electronics has STKs 1-800-628-1118, you will also need some heat sink silicon compound to put on back of New ICs ,dont put to much of compound just enought to cover back of ICs use your fringer to rub on them.Let me know if you should need anymore help.

No worries, you can get the mini-DVI (for macbooks) to rca adapter. You can purchase this on store.apple.com for $19. Just plug the yellow RCA wire into this and VOILA! Mac to TV! You might also try Ebay.com. They usually have them for less and shipping is usually fast (if you buy in the US and make sure they have decent feedback...my rule is no less than 90%) I hope this helps you! Don't forget to vote. On Fixya, we rely on your feedback. I posted a picture of the mini-DVI to RCA adapter below:mini-dvi-to-dvi-300x210.jpg

It may be a problem in the TV but can also be caused by a poor RF connection either at the back of the TV or the satelite receiver. That of course would not be an issue if you are connecting your satelite via a composite or component or HDMI input.
