Hi, I have a ViewSonic
Get a working monitor and turn on the computer. Then swap the monitor with VP201b.
Get a flash light closer to the screen to see whether you can see the desktop screen image. Yes? Then it is your backlight inverter.
Find a Youtube video to show you how to open the cover. Then look for any sign of broken capacitor(s). Replace them and then test your monitor. If all capacitors are okay, it is one of your FUSES. There are 2 tiny surface mount fuses ("FN" type). You can short the two ends to test it before removing them. Often only one of them is broken. Replace it and the monitor shall be okay now.

Sounds like the buttons or the button panel are messed up. Or it has gotten moisture in it.
The only time i have seen this was when one of the buttons were malfunctioning, and we ended up replacing the monitor.
I have a Viewsonic VA1916W-4
We had a similar problem with a bigscreen TV. We feared the worse, but after calling our local repair service, they told us this was a common problem involving a poor solder joint. They came out and fixed it in 15 minutes. Start by Googling your model number and "green" or "troubleshoot" to see if this is a common problem. If so, you may be able to fix it yourself or print out the issue and take it to a reputable repair shop or authorized dealer.
