My Bose wave radio cd player is having a hard time reading cds. I have cleaned the eye and unplugged and plugged in the machine, but nothing seems to work. The cd player is spinning and searching for tracks, but not playing the cd. However, sometimes everything works fine. It is not consistent. Any advice?

Use a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol. Wet the end of the swab and gently rub the top of the laser lens. Let it dry for a few min and then try playing the cd again.
Hi, Well, the lens light needs re-trimming, that's why it's having a hard time reading that audio CD. The adjustment is in the LENS assembly, there is a trimmer nut under that you will have to adjust and clean. It always works on CD AUDiO player ( not on DVD ). You could send it to Bose and have it tuned and service clean the whole unit, it is not that expensive or bring it to any electronic tech and he knows what to do.
The answer depends upon the age and precise version of your Bose system. Not all CD players can reliably read CD-R and CD-RW discs, and even those which do are sometimes picky about the brand of recordable disc in use.
In my experience, all of the Bose Wave systems I've worked on have contained surprisingly cheap/average parts inside considering the luxury price-tag. Either stick to using other cheaper (and often far better) CD players for CDs you've burned yourself, or look into getting the CD laser pick up inside your Bose replaced with one which is known to have no issues with CDs of different reflectivity to standard pre-recorded CDs.
Try removing the cover and clean glass laser eye lens with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab. If cleaning doesn't work, then laser lens circuit will need to be tested and replaced. You can use an ohmmeter to test the capacitors and circuit.
Hello my friend,
I suggest to test with many different CDs, if it's still skipping in all CDs. i will say that it's a lens issue, in this case you buy some CD cleaner which has some special lotion which clean the lens. but if this doesn't help also, at this time i will say that the lens needs to be replaced and i hope that you device is still under warranty because the repair will be free for you.
Best Regards,
Unplug and plug back in. It should go through a automatic process, ejecting any discs that are inside. If all you hear is a mechanical noise, try this again only with the disc trays facing the ceiling.
Bose does not release their parts lists or schematics, effectively
creating a monopoly for parts and repairs. In fact, their web site
says that the Bose factory is the only option for service or repair.
They used to list a flat rate repair charge on the web site, but
removed it - probably because it scared too many people. Their
troubleshooting guide (below) might help, but it's very simplistic.
Before you invest in expensive factory repair on one of these trouble
prone sets, you might want to investigate the new HD radios -- better
sound at a MUCH lower price.
CD Player on my Bose Wave radio/cd just blinks CD and it appears to me that the disc is not spinning. This is the same problem that many others have already identified. I unplugged the unit and removed the battery but this did not solve the problem. I notice that there is a "platter" (part of the lid) that sandwiches the cd onto the spindle. the platter seems tight but does turn. Also, does anyone know if there is a drive belt that may have broken?
