Maytag MFD2561HEQ 24.8 cu. ft. French Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerator in Bisque Logo

My Maytag french door refrigerator model MFD 2561HEQ is not cooling on the top. Once it reached almost 80 degrees the freezer temp began to rise. I had the fan replaced less than a year ago. At that time the repair man told me there is some type of a door, like a flapper door, that needs to remain open for the air to circulate from the bottom up to the refrigerator. I'm looking for this door and how to adjust it so the top cools. I've also vacuumed underneath to make sure the coils are clean.

SOURCE: Refrigerator doesn't cool/freeze - clicking, cyclying noise repeates, but doesn't cool

I've been told by a tech who repaired my MFD2560HEQ this past week that many of this model had a problem with compressor failure. Your symptoms are classic. What you are hearing is the starter relay trying to start a warm/hot compressor by supplying it with an extra jolt of electricity, but because of the faulty compressor (or if you are lucky a faulty relay) that's warm (cool ones start more easily often) is refusing to budge into motion and compress the freon. Maytag, I believe, has a five year warranty on the compressors. They did on mine, but unless you have an extended warranty the labor replacing it is not covered and that will be around 2-3 hours worth. This is the price we are paying for our quest for energy efficiency. Compressors are being built so small and light that they fail much more often than grandma's old, old refrigerator that was built like Fort Knox and ran for 45 years, remember? But we're being energy efficient! Thank you environmental extremists! I wish I could send you the repair bill.

SOURCE: Refrigerator and freezer are warm

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

SOURCE: My fridge/freezer will periodically stop cooling.

Lets see if you have a defective defrost timer Click Here=> MTB2176HR Control Panel item number 15 is the defrost timer and should have a hole below it entering the fresh food compartment. Sometimes there is a plastic plug covering hole to hide its opening. Pry plug away and use a flathead screwdriver to turn timer clockwise until compressor either stops or starts. If the compressor stops leave like this for up to 30 minutes. This should be manual defrost. and if it does not come out of defrost gently turn timer again slowly until compressor restarts. If you need to do this the timer will need replaced. Part number=> 68233-3 Look into the rear of the freezer compartment and you see frost building on the rear freezer wall I believe you are not defrosting until your defect defrost time finally drags around to defrost. Now if this is not the case I need you to tell me ASAP because I will have a change in plans, Let me know HERE or here on Fixya, I really have the tools, manuals and can solve this for you, Let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

SOURCE: I have a Maytag French

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

Model # MFF2557HES Top refrigator section stoped cooling freezer is working

You may have Ice buildup in the freezer. You freezer has a fan in the bak that sends the cool air to the fridge. Your fridge dial determines how muh cold air comes from the freezer. Try defrosting the freezer. You may have to pull the back panel off of the inside of the freezer to get the ice thawed. The ice build up is likely causing the air to not get to the fridge. Hope it works.

My refrigerator won't cool (freezer still working)

The temp sensor is the most likely cause of this problem. However, you have other possible options that you can test and check:

likely the problem with your fridge is a bad dumper control. This is a part which operates with the air flow from the freezer into the fresh food compartment.
The dumper control is located in the in the upper left corner in the fresh food compartment.

Bottom freezer temperature rises as high as 35 degrees and drops only to a low of 15 degrees continually. ongoing for a month now. french doors fridge now has temp. fluxes within this past week. temp. goes...

check the defrost thermostat , and any temp sensor that can determine the freezer temperature.
If this fridge temperature is electronically controlled, the freezer control board must also be tested.

Maytag French Door MFD2561HEB water dispenser not working

We had the same issues with the water freezing and called a technician out. He added some extra insulation installed around the water lines inside the refrigerator and we also keep our frig at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly above the manufacturers default setting. Hope this helps.
