I need asistant in setting up my HP Deskjet f4280 so that i can scan copies as pdf. Currently not a file option.

If you use HP Software to operate the scanning from the deskjet then you can set the scan settings to compile a number of document pages into one file.

Best to download the full set of software for your printer from this site and let it install. Sometimes older version may not have the new features you need.

You need to install OCR by Iris software. This will allow you to scan and convert it to rich text file (.rtf) /editable text. Some HP AIO like HP c309a have free basic OCR software. you can download c309a full feature driver and software and just get the OCR software.

Open printer suite and open scan option from it.

or

Open Microsoft Word > Insert > Pictures > From Scaner > Scan page will come out > Preview > Scan > Picture inserted in Word page > Set Picture In front of text > OK > right click at picture > save as picture file > choose save as JPEG file > Save.

Now you can use it as picture files.

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO PRINT SOMETHING FROM MS OFFICE WORD OR A PDF FILE
THEN .. OPEN THE FILE THAT YOU WANT TO PRINT
NOW ON THE TOP YOU WILL GET OPTIONS LIKE FILE, EDIT, VIEW, FAVOURITES, TOOLS AND HELP
( IT YOU DONOT GET THESE OPTIONS TAP THE "ALT" KEY ON THE KEYBOARD )
NOW CLICK ON FILE AND CLICK ON PRINT
NOW YOU WILL GET THE OPTION OF " NUMBER OF COPIES " PUT THE NO OF COPIES THAT YOU WANT
NOW CICK ON PRINT ON THE BOTTOM
IT WILL GIVE YOU MULTIPLE COPIES
ALL THE BEST !!!!!

to get pdf files you have to have adobe installed in the computer

Your best bet would be to get the latest driver from www.hp.com . Find the driver page and enter your model number. From there you can download the latest drivers.
If that doesn't work, it's probably faulty hardware. Check if warranty is an option, or you might be better off getting a new machine.

It'll not scan as PDF instead you need to save the image as PDF or change the settings to save to PDF by default

This can possibly solve your problem:

0. you should have the CD that came along with the printer. the solution that is listed below is working for windows xp operating system.
1. Browse the CD -> Go to the Setup folder. -> Go to the DocProc folder. -> Double-click Docproc.msi to install. you will not see any progress etc.,
2. Browse the CD -> Go to the Setup folder. -> Go to Qfolder . -> Double-click Qfolder.msi to install. same as above.
3. Go back to your HP solution centre and under scan settings option you shhould get to see the PDF options (and a few others as well).

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doen't work with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP f4280) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.
