Is this a plasma or an LCD TV? If it's an LCD TV then I would check the backlight inverters. If it's a Plasma TV then The Sustain boards there are two sustain board.
Sounds like the Invertor for the backlights has blown. if you are lucky and it is just the invertor blown it could cost £50-£150 for a new invertor board, but if you are unlucky then the backlights themselfs have blown too which means the TV is beyond economic repair.
Yes, I can help you! You have a bad y or z sustain board! I do have both of these boards in stock & I can also help you with figuring out which one of these two boards are bad! Please feel free to give me a call @ 1-503-432-9904 or message me @ [email protected] Ask for Dave! Talk to you later! :-)
The pop you heard was probably the Y-sustain board. The "sound, but no picture" problem is common for plasma tv's. I fixed mine buy replacing both the Y-sustain board and the Z-sustain board. You can find both boards on ebay for around a total of $150.
Then it is probably not cold solder joints. You wouldn't think that an lcd TV would need a high voltage transformer but it does. They are very small compared to CRT televisions but they power up the screen. Without it you have no backround light to veiw what is there. There are two neon lamps on either side of the screen but they rarley go bad. My guess is the transformer ot the power supply feeding it.
i have a hitachi 42edt41a that had no power and i replaced the power supply board, now it has power and sound and no picture, was told it now needs a y sustain board also
