Replacing the hard drive is not too difficult. You will need the operating system disc to reinstall windows or you could try a free Linux (like Ubuntu) operating system.
On the bottom of the laptop there is a 2 access panels the small one is the memory and the larger is the hard drive. You just need to remove the screw and and the hard drive will be below. You just need to see what type it is by the connection. There are 2 types IDE or SATA; Ide had a wide ribbon connector and SATA has a small connector. The old hard drive will also have the type stamped on the label. You should go will a larger capacity than what was in there. For example if you have a 250GB you can add a larger 750GB or more. Make sure the power is off and remove the battery before starting the process.
If you just need more storage and the old hard drive is still working you could just buy an external usb hard drive and keep all your pictures and music on that.
Thanks for using FixYa
It is easey: search youtube for you PC-model and you willl find good instructions. Normally it is just to screws to open the hard drive led. Then you just replace the hard drive like a piece of "Lego".
Disk drive size is normally 2,5" in a laptop and all fairly modern use hard drive with SCSI-connection/contact. (The old type IDE-connection is very reare today) Wikipedia has good info on this if interested.
Do not forget backing up your system and to have System restore discs to restore your Windows operating system .
It isn't terribly difficult, but requires some disassembly from the underside of the laptop. If you querry "laptop hard drive replacement" on YouTube, with your make and model substituted for the word "laptop". If you don't get an exact match, you will find a similar video to assist you as to the process. You can also google the question, and perhaps find a web blog explaining the process.
Good luck, and hope this helps.
