Replacing the hard drive is not too difficult. You will need the operating system disc to reinstall windows or you could try a free Linux (like Ubuntu) operating system.
On the bottom of the laptop there is a 2 access panels the small one is the memory and the larger is the hard drive. You just need to remove the screw and and the hard drive will be below. You just need to see what type it is by the connection. There are 2 types IDE or SATA; Ide had a wide ribbon connector and SATA has a small connector. The old hard drive will also have the type stamped on the label. You should go will a larger capacity than what was in there. For example if you have a 250GB you can add a larger 750GB or more. Make sure the power is off and remove the battery before starting the process.
If you just need more storage and the old hard drive is still working you could just buy an external usb hard drive and keep all your pictures and music on that.

It is easey: search youtube for you PC-model and you willl find good instructions. Normally it is just to screws to open the hard drive led. Then you just replace the hard drive like a piece of "Lego".
Disk drive size is normally 2,5" in a laptop and all fairly modern use hard drive with SCSI-connection/contact. (The old type IDE-connection is very reare today) Wikipedia has good info on this if interested.

Do not forget backing up your system and to have System restore discs to restore your Windows operating system .

It isn't terribly difficult, but requires some disassembly from the underside of the laptop. If you querry "laptop hard drive replacement" on YouTube, with your make and model substituted for the word "laptop". If you don't get an exact match, you will find a similar video to assist you as to the process. You can also google the question, and perhaps find a web blog explaining the process.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Replace hard drive hp notebook 15

Usually you can just remove a cover underneath the laptop to reveal the Hard drive.

Occasionally you need to remove the entire motherboard to get to it. Some manufactures like to make it difficult.

But usually its very accessible underneath.

What hard drive is compatable with an acer laptop travelmate 2200 series model lw80?

Any ATA/IDE 2.5 inch hard drive will do for your laptop. Unfortunately the ATA models have been replaced with SATA hard drives, so it will be difficult to get a new hard drive. Also, expect to pay more per-gigabyte for the old ATA models in comparison to the standard SATA drives.

Broken pin on power supply kit. Is repair possible or is replacement required?

You would need to find a new connector to replace the broken one - a very difficult task since they are not sold as parts. Just replace it and save yourself the hassle.

Hi, I have an error message on my notebook laptop reading: 'windows detected a hard drive problem (repair or replace disk). Disk Failure Name: ST98823AS ATA, Device Volume C:\. How do I go about repairing...

Leila, repairing a hard drive or replavcing it in a laptop is difficult due the the number of screws and bits and pices one has to remove to get to it. I suggest you take it to a computer specialist that deals with the brand of laptop near you New disk varies depending on size but average about$160.00 and min 2 hrs labor @ $90 and hour. The decision is is it cheaper to upgrade than repair?

Power reverse smoked drive. Need schematic to find ic that needs replacement.

Even if you could get a circuit diagram, because of the reverse power polarity problem, it would be difficult to find all the faulty components. This would be a waste of time and money unless you like challenges.
This drive is old and is a small capacity by to-days standards, if it was me I would put my money on a new larger and faster hard drive.

Is it possible to open my Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275 and replace the hard drive inside?

Hi,

Yes it is possible but the Iomegas are difficult to open and you often snap the plastic retainers in the process. Given you can buy a !TB comlete for only about $20 more than buying the raw drive I suspect you would be better advised to simply replace the unit all together,

My HP a1700n hard drive is failing. Can I replace

Its not difficult at all. Find a hard drive that you want to use, next get a case that you want to use as well then install the drive into the case. Next you need to figure out whether you want to hook it up by usb, firewire, SATA, etc. Then hook it up that way and fdisk, format and then install the operating system you want to on it.

In fact some hard drives now come with there own cases as well and can be as low as like $99 so really its the way that you want to do it. Just make sure you get the size hard drive you want and then the case you want to use for the connection type you want to use, with USB just plug it into a slot outside of the computer, SATA will require you to plug it into the inside of the computer and firewire would hookup outside of the computer.

SATA would be the fastest but would require you leaving the side panel off cause it would need to hook up inside of the computer.
