Bro, when you see "SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: FAILED!" then this hard drive is either dead or dying. There isn't much you can do other than replace it now.

Hi ,
Don't despare , I solved the same problem this way :
The best way I can think to recover your data is to extract the HDD from it's box ( box will be lost ) and connect the drive directly inside your desktop , as secundary .
You could also try a recovery tool , from here for instance
http://www.geckoandfly.com/3163/crashed-hard-drive-hard-disk-data-recovery-software-tools-and-service/
If this doesn' t work , you finally could bring the drive to a specialized workplace where they will do the job for you but it will cost you then a lot of monney .
Best regards .

this is the indication that your hard drive is failing in self monitoring and reporting tool which is done by the bios , in the initial booting time, its better you should replace the hard disk by backing up your data as soon as possible or if you don't want to see this message simple go on to your bios then disable smart option of the hard drvie

Well.. I'm SAD to inform you..your drive has encountered a serious error.

There's a couple of options..none of which you will like.

Drives (SMART) report errors, but sadly don't fix anything. Once a bad-sector has been encountered, its usually an indication of major failure (google/39% of all drives w/bad sectors major failure..etc)

Your options.. Is your data super important--if so, STOP using the drive, send it to a DRC (Data recovery Center), expect to spend $600-1k for the data.

If you've backedup, good news-- drives are cheap.. buy another, plus your drive into tthe 2nd slot, copy off what you can..

the drive itself is having a major failure (meaning it cannot relocate the bad sectors any longer, hence the smart failure)-- meaning-- drives "TRY" to relocate (when they detect failures, they'll move the data else where, mark the bad area, and use a new spot)... Your drive has probably done that.. ALOT. And now... it's gone critical.

BEST solution for you, to save $$ and time.. but a drive ($80-150 bucks)... install your os... put the other drive on the other cable, copy off what you can..and call it a day.

A DRC won't do much more to be honest... if its SUPER critical, contact www.deepspar.com and see if they will recommend you to a DRC locally to you, or do it them selves...again $$$

Bring it to a computer repair store, they have additional tools that will extract the files in most cases.

hi,
  • If you want to format your drive, just load the operating system disc into your computer.
  • Your computer will automatically detect it and start the formatting process.

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue then select restart if the problem still persists f8 back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option if it is a hardware issue the system restore might not work but if it is you should

test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or faulty fan lead can cause this problem
follow the troubleshooting procedure a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly
a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive
check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working hope this helps also check the Cmos battery and computer ram make sure they are securely seated
another possible reason could be a memory dump you might be running to many programs at the one time placing to much strain on the CPU also you might not have enough RAM random access memory
hope this helps you
