Dvd player not working

One of the most common problems encountered on a DVD player on a laptop is that the DVD tray does not eject. There could be several reasons why; one is that the drive does not sit on the bay. The screw is either loose or missing. In this case, try removing and reinstalling the swappable DVD tray. Make sure that the release latch snaps to the locked position and then screw it on tightly. If the DVD tray does not eject even when the drive is properly seated, power down and use the emergency pinhole on the front faceplate. Do this with the DVD trays for swappable types. Another cause of the DVD tray not ejecting is that there is a broken DVD disk stuck inside. Insert a paperclip through the pinhole on the front of the DVD tray. Then, when the DVD tray ejects halfway through, remove the broken pieces of the DVD. If the problem with the DVD tray not ejecting is due to the ejector mechanism, it may not be practical to do the repair on your own. A DVD Is Not Recognized by the DVD Player b> If the DVD movie does not play on your laptop's DVD player, it could be due to dirt or smudges on the disk. Clean the DVD with a nice lint-free cloth, and then inspect for scratches and surface build-up. If cleaning does not work, check if the drive can read other CDs or DVDs. Test using a brand new factory-sealed DVD. If it still does not work, that means the problem is not the disk but the DVD drive could be broken and may need replacing. If the DVD does not play, it could be that your DVD player needs a CODEC (Coder/Decoder). There are some downloads available online to update your CODEC. If the problem is software-related, find a way to fix it by calling the software manufacturer instead of downloading the CODEC each time you want to play a DVD. They may be able to send you a patch that you can install to fix the problem. DVD Drive Failure On rare occasions, you would see hardware failure errors during boot up. This shows up as "DVD Drive Failure" error, or the drive disappears from the CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) set up. This could be due to the drive electronics failure, which may be why the DVD drive has stopped communicating. You can remove and reinstall the DVD driver or software and then test the connection. If it still does not see the DVD drive, you can remove and reinstall the DVD tray and see if that would fix the problem. If the problem persists, it may be time to replace the DVD drive with a new one. Hope this helps.

The cd that comes with my external slim dvd writer is broken in two pieces , it also has the nero aplications that come in it. I'm traying to download an Image of the cd. It has this reference se-so84...

Clearly the CD needs to be broken into more than two pieces. Or swapped out for an unsplit CD at the shop, where they can make a copy for you of course. Or or course you write the maker's local office. There's no need for the particular thing though; there's quite good free burning software around.

Dvd writer's flap not going in..

Breaking of cd indicates that the cd is not aligned (tightened) properly between the spindle and the magnetic top, if the tray dos'nt align properly it may not lift the spindle up, open the drive and check for any obstacles in the tray path, important if your drive uses rubber belt to drive the tray in-out replace the belt, also check the magnetic top for breakage.

DVD wont initialize, it will not see that a disk has been inserted, no matter what you insert, blank recodable disk or a pre-recorded movie/disk. Has the drive gone bad? is there a fix or a replacement...

Hi,

There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)

2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)

3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.

You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.

Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.

Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.

I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG IDE DVD roms and IDE DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.

Let me know how it goes.

My USB Sony- dvd writer (enclosed in casing) has stopped reading

Try using a can of compressed air with the tube on the end. Open the disk tray and spray the compressed air liberally inside the drive area, sweeping the tube from side to side. If this does not fix the problem and you feel comfortable with removing the drive and removing the top cover, you can try cleaning the optic lense inside (very gently) with a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol.

Dvd is stuck inside and drawer will not open

Yes, it was a piece of the addhesive dot that was stuck to the back of the disk. I unplugged the unit (of course), removed the 10 screws holding the cover on the chassis and that exposed the disk in its tray. I could not manually open the tray still, but I was able to remove the tape dot from the disk while it was still in its tray. All is well now.

Liteon dvdrw tray does not open

I had the same problem with my LiteOn dvd re-writer. It appears to be caused by a worn or slipping drive belt. I found the following link helpful http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/other/360belt.htm
After manually ejecting the tray using a bent paperclip, the drive belt was easily removed, washed in warm soapy water, dried thoroughly and re-attached. Tray opened and closed perfectly. Still looking for a new replacement belt though!

Power light to my DVD writer is always on and I can not open the draw. Sometimes the pc does not see the device within device manager or my computer

you may have a faulty drive. If the activity light is always on it is possible the lens
needs cleaning, the reason the drive will not open is that it thinks there is a disk in the
drive. What I would do is boot the pc into command prompt only, (to get the option
to do this press the f8 button as the pc starts up) then when you have a black screen
press the tray button on your DVD, it should open. WIth the tray open switch off the
PC and remove the cover. Remove the DVD drive, disassemble the drive and clean
the lens with isopropyl alcohol or Meths then reassemble and refit. Then reinstall
your O/S if you can. If you still have problems after that replace the drive.
