Assuming your WAP11 still has the default settings... Open a browser, and type the WAP11's address (192.168.1.251) in the Address Bar and press the Enter key. You should immediately get this password dialog; Leave the User Name field empty, enter "admin" (sans quotes) in the Password field and click OK. That will bring you to the main setup screen, below: I have a Linksys BEFSR41 - connect.jpg wap11setup.jpg
Click the WEP Key Setting button and enter your WEP inI have a Linksys BEFSR41 - wap11wep.jpgg src="/uploads/images/wap11wep.jpg" alt="wap11wep.jpg" class="h_mi" />

I cannot to connect to 192.168.1.1 page

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Bluetooth interference

Unfortunately, Bluetooth and 802.11b/g are always going to interfere with each other, but you can try a few things to help minimize it:

1. Set your WAP11 to run on channel 11, or 1. Bluetooth hops from channel to channel rapidly, setting your WiFI to 11 or 1 (the 'edges') leaves the most open space for it to hop around in.

2. If your bluetooth devices/adapters have some sort of '802.11b coexistence' option in their advanced settings, turn it on, but only a few things will have this option.

3. I know this isn't the software-based solution you wanted, but seriously, if you can move the WAP11 about 2-3 meters away from any bluetooth stuff, this will solve most if not all your issues.

I can't locate my WEP key for BEFSR41 router. When I entered 192.168.1.1 it asked for userid and password. I tried 'admin' under each of those lines (leaving other blank) and neither worked....

Hi chrismoore,

Welcome to Fixya. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key or Wep Key. The Network Key or Wep Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

I don't know how to reinstall the linksys access point!!! Our wireless network that we made simply disappeared, so I'm trying to re-make one. However, when I tried that with a flash drive, it couldn't work...

T
o access the Access Points Setup, and the LAN IP address has not changed, then computer must have an IP address of 192.168.1.XXX. If the Access Point is plugged in via Ethernet to a Linksys Router and the computer is also connected a Linksys router via Ethernet, then the PC should already have a correct IP address (unless the LAN IP Address of the Router has been changed). If unsure, please assign the computer a Static IP Address so it will have an IP address in the same range as the Access Points IP Address.

If the Access Point is being connected to a hub/switch/router via Ethernet, then use the cable that was provided with Access Point. If the Access Point is being connected to the computer directly, then a Cross Over cable must be used. Cross over cables can be purchased at most electronic stores.
Remember: When ever a change is made in the Setup of the Access Point, the Apply button must be used to save the settings to the Access Point.
  1. Open a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape)
  2. When the browser opens, go to the "Address" bar and input the IP address of the Access Point.
      Default IP addresses:
    • WAP11 v2.8 - 192.168.1.251
    • WAP54G v1.1 - 192.168.1.245
  3. A "User Name" and "Password" prompt will appear, leave the "User Name" field blank and input the Access Points password (The default password of a Linksys Access Point is admin) into the "Password" field.

Linksys Adapter and 2wire router

  1. ensure that a wireless connection is created in control panel on the pc, it may not even be attempting to connect
  2. ensure that the router wireless is turned ON, it may have been turned off as a security measure when no wireless pcs were used
  3. The security settings on the adaptor may be set to the office network and locked
wep password at home is different or not enabled, so the secured adaptor will not connect.
make any changes from a cable connected pc (no chance of data loss)
access the routers settings page and check the settings,
then ensure the adaptor rom if present is set to the same settings

Linksys wireless adapter and linksys wrt54g2 router not seeing each other

its possible that the wireless card does not have the correct wireless settings.

Open the linksys wireless monitor on your wife's laptop.
Go to the profiles tab, highlight the default SSID then click on edit at the bottom. It will search for the wireless network, from the list of networks that it will show you, click the name of your wireless network, in if the network is secured you will be ask to put in your network key. Then click connect. Then it will say that you profile was successfully configured. then click connect to network. It will take you back back to the screen where you saw no association to the access point, check if you will now get a new message. On that same screen click the more info button at the upper left hand side. Check the IP address it should be 192.168.1.x. If you have that IP then you can test if you will be albe to get online.

if you still have any problem just reply to this post.

Wireless networking

If your router is a BEFSR41 it does not have a wireless option on it. It is just a wired cable/dsl router.

Linksys WAP11 Wireless-B (802.11b) Access Point

you have to go into the routers settings, by typing it's ip address (refer to manual) in your internet browser and look for DHCP and make sure that it is enabled to automatically assign both your pcs an ip address. This must be done using a lan RJ45 cable that was supplied; first before going wireless. Next go to each pc and either use the wireless network setup wizard or go to your wireless network connections (in control panel>network connections) and right click on the connection(this is not the lan connection icon, make sure you choose your wireless icon) and select properties, then click the internet protocol line TCP/IP and again click properties. make sure that 'Obtain IP address automatically is ticked and click ok. Your pcs may need a restart and should find the router will be seen in your found connections, click connect and your away
