Question about Linksys Instant 802.11b Wireless Network Access Point: WAP11 (NTWRLSXWAP11)
How do you connect your laptop and PC to the wirless router to run both through one modem?
The manual for your access point is here, and it provides a thorough explanation of setting it up: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wap11ug.pdf Do you actually have a router? Some modems provide this function, but many don't. A wireless access point is usually connected to one of the router's ethernet ports, just like a PC, then you run the setup program to set wireless security. If there's only one port on your modem, and you don't have a router, you need to buy one, or swap your access point for a wireless router.

Don't forget to reboot the modem once you first put the router in line.

Wireless networking is too complicated to explain here, but Linksys has lots of tools, utilities and explanayions on their site. Below is a link to the tools page. Click the "Learning Center" link for basic explanations on setup. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859678292&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=7829277881B01 Hope that helps! ;)

You have to go into the routers settings, by typing it's ip address (refer to manual) in your internet browser and look for DHCP and make sure that it is enabled to automatically assign both your pcs an ip address. This must be done using a lan RJ45 cable that was supplied; first before going wireless. Next go to each pc and either use the wireless network setup wizard or go to your wireless network connections (in control panel>network connections) and right click on the connection(this is not the lan connection icon, make sure you choose your wireless icon) and select properties, then click the internet protocol line TCP/IP and again click properties. make sure that 'Obtain IP address automatically is ticked and click ok. Your pcs may need a restart and should find the router will be seen in your found connections, click connect and your away
