My friend just bout a cam and she says that it wont connect to her computer when she plugs in the usb. she has microsoft xp. but its still not showing anything. any advice?
after installing the software and drivers, the program asks me to plug in the camera and wait for it to connect.... it sits on "please wait for the camera to connect" forever or until I skip the process. of course, the camera doesn't work if I continue without connecting. It doesn't want to "reconnect" later either. I have un-installed and re-installed the software AND drivers 4 times.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Hi, Try camera in another USB port of laptop and also check it with another USB cable, if still problem not solved then plug camera in any other computer to make sure that it is problem of camera. If camera still wont work in other computer then its USB port got defective, please use memory card reader to transfer pictures in computer, take out memory card from camera, put it in memory card reader and plug it in USB port of computer. Thanks.

Now using the supplied disk install the camera software but please do not connect the camera YET, if the camera is already connected,
remove the camera and reboot,

The only other thing that I would suggest you try to do is (if possible) goto another PC or maybe a friends PC and plug the web cam in. If it does the same thing then the web cam no longer works. If it does work, then you may want to try another USB port on your PC.
Unplug all the other USB connected and just try plugging the camera into the USB and see if it works and doesn't shut down the computer. If it works, then one of the other units are conflicting with the camera. Then try plugging one USB unit at a time back in the computer and see which one is causing the problem. Good way to eliminate a problem and worth the afford. Bud
Screenshot or more details needed. This sounds like camera is faulty, but i dont want to believe it. Are we talking about web cam or like photo camera? If web cam, then just get new one from ebay, no point to have headache when they are so cheap on ebay. But if we are talking about photo camera then make sure you have right drivers installed, all usb settings are correct on cam. I mean, some devices are charging via usb and wont let you take photos unless you change usb setting to media transfer mode. Check those. But if photocam does a photoshot but image is blank then you might have a faulty photo cam
