I have an Epson Stylus 860 ink jet printer. When I attempted to print a greeting card, the paper feed stopped before it reached the print heads. The red light on the Load/Eject button came on blinking. Normally when that happens I press the Load/Eject button, the sheet feeds through and clears the paper feed path. When I pressed the Load/Eject button in this instance, the paper feed did not move. Instead, both lights on the Cleaning button came on blinking. The Light on the load/Eject button continued to blink.
I have removed power from the printer, Started and restarted the computer several times. I have removed and reinstalled the printer. The three lights always come on blinking when I power up the printer. I cannot clear it. I cannot move the print cartridge carrier to replace the print cartridges..
Any suggestions to cope with the problem will be appreciated.
Sincerely
Carl Clark.
Your waste ink pad has become full and the counter must be reset along with the pad replaced. New pads can be bought from the manufacturer.
You can use the SSC service utility to reset the protection counter. You can download the utility from here http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html
You can also use the control paler to reset the counter. Timing is the key to success when you reset the counter using the control panel so keep that in mind.
To reset the protection counter using the control panel (front panel)
Step 1.Turn the power on while holdint the following buttons doen. Paper feed, cleaning button. (thr paper out light will flash for 3 seconds)
Step 2.While the paper out light is still flashing press the cleaning button for 10 seconds. The following leds will flash in sequence Ink out lights black and color, Paper out light. Once the printer starts to initilize the counter should be reset.
This will reset the protection counter. Again timing is the key to get the the above sequence to work. Also it is a good idea to replace or clean the absorber pads For info on the basic process try this link http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/wip.html
Greetings,
Remove any paper loaded and check for any obstructions.
Powercycle the printer 2-3 times while disconnected from the computer.
If the lights are still flashing, the unit needs servicing.
I understand the fix is more costly than the printer ( check this link http://www.epson.com/loyalty ).
Keep us posted and thank you for using our service.

HI,
Press the load/ejectbutton. The printer ejects the jammed paper and then resumes printing. If the error is not cleared, open the printer cover and remove thejammed paper. Then reload paper in the sheet feeder and press the load/eject button. The printer resumes printing.
Hello Carl Clark,
is the greeting card still inside the printer? because if it is, all of this problem might just be a jam inside the printer.

Alternately, you can try:
It may have to be done a couple of time.Power off the machine for at least 5 minutes and remove connection to the computer
push and hold down the "ink" button and the "paper" button and power on the printer.
Soon as the "paper" light flashes, quickly release both the buttons and
then immediately press and hold down the "ink" button only for at least
10 seconds.
Additionally, you may to try a third party multiple reset for Epson printers, SSC service utility. Download, install and run.

There is no paper in the printer of any size. I removed all paper and inspected the paper feed path when the problem occurred.
