It may be stuck in the opposite mode of what you are using on the TV like HDMI output or S-Video. To check this press and hold down the power button, you will hear the initial beap once and shortly followed by a double beap. After the double beap immediately remove you finger. You may have to do this once or twice to get the right beap because this is a service menu they do not want you to get into. Once this is done you will have prompts on the tv to change settings to what every output you want. Make sure you change it to the right one and you should be all set.

How to watch DVD movies and videos on PS3?

Sony's new PS3 system with a 250GB hard drive hit store shelves on November 3. This PS3 250GB system has the same slim look, feel and features as the 120GB system, but with a 250GB built-in hard drive for $349.99. With a larger storage for more multimedia files than ever before, we’ll have even more room to save and play your digital videos on the PS3 anytime we like.

Here I'd like to share all of you an easy way to play DVD movies and videos on PS3. The way I use is to convert DVD movies and video to PS3 accepted MP4 video with a DVD and video conversion tool. I find a DVD and Video to PS3 Converter which is easy to use and works well for me. Here I make a step-by-step guide on how to play DVD movies and videos with this Wondershare DVD to PS3 and Video to PS3 Converter.

Step 1: Load DVD moives and videos

Frist, we need to download this DVD and Video to PS3 Converter, install and run it. Then we can select any DVD movies or video we want to play on PS3 and click “And Video” or “Load DVD” to add these files to the program.

Step 2: Select PS3 MP4 video

Then we elect PS3 video( in MP4 format) from the categorized output formats list in "Profile" drop-down list and specify the output directory to save your converted files in "Output" drop-down list.

Stpe 3: Start conversion

Next step is to hit "Convert" button, and all the selected videos will be converted to PS3 MP4 video automatically.

Step 4: Transfer converted PS3 video to your PS3

The last step is to transfer the converted PS3 MP4 video to PS3. Aftering connecting PS3 with computer, we can click "Copy to USB device" button to transfer videos to PS3.

My son tried to download demo of a game called spare parts from the sony ps3 website and since then we only have sound and no picture on his ps3. the hdmi lead is fine and works other things ie blueray...

No prob. The PS3's HDMI is crazy at times. All you have to do is what is called a "Video reset". I'll include a link to a video that will help you. This works for all PS3 models.

The multi Video does not work in my PS3

When you power up the machine, continue to hold down the power button past the initial beeps and wait for a beep after about 3 seconds. This will flip it from HDMI to default video output. It makes no other changes to the PS3 except default video output. You might have to cycle the power on the TV as my Samsung kills the AV input from the PS3 when it is not sending AV.

I TURN ON MY PS3

Try reseting the video following these steps:

Power off your PS3.

Turn on your PS3 by holding down the power button until you hear TWO beeps, then let go immediately.

This will reset it back to the default video settings.

If that doesn't work then you probably have a problem with the RSX (Video Chip) on the motherboard. You'll have to call Sony @ 1-800-345-SONY for service.

Cant get hdmi for ps3 to work on my jvc hd 52g887

Had same problem with Panasonic PT60LC14 tv when connecting by HDMI cord to my PS3 and a blue ray disc was playing. First, read your tv manual to see what video inputs it supports . Then read the PS3 online manual (section on "video output settings").

For me I found out that my tv only supported 1080i (along with 480i/p, 780p) and the ps3 manual says blue ray outputs 1080p, so my blue ray discs will not play on my tv according to the PS3 manual. PS3 manual says to restart the ps3 (power off, then power on and HOLD for 5 seconds) - then the standard video output settings should be reset. Hopefully the ps3 menu will pop up at least. I haven't tried this yet but if it doesn't work, i'll may try to reset PS3 video out settings manually first using another tv that works with it ..

PS3 no video

Maybe your settings got buggered up...
first off, did you ever have video, then it quit?

did you try the cable that comes with the ps3 and then do a video reset? If not, try this

Try this: hook the ps3 to the tv with the ORIGIONAL video cable (the one with red and white audio, and yellow video).

Trun off ps3 with power switch on back. Turn switch back on. press and hold ps3 front power button for 5 to 8 seconds till system double beeps. This resets the video output to standard res. Turn on and see if you have a picture. If not, try another cable. (same cable as Ps2 for this test). If none of that works, you may have a broken PS3
