The Viewsonic VG1921wm monitor uses the same power supply board that the Optiquest Q19w uses. When that monitor has display problems like you are having the most common cause is bad capacitors on the power supply board. When the capacitors go out the power board does not put out the correct voltages to drive the back light circuits and the driver circuits so you get no display. There is a very good chance that this is the problem with your unit and it would be worth having a look at the power supply board. Here is a link to a repair guide for the Optiquest monitor and since they use the same power supply board it should help you check you board and show what needs to be replaced to repair it.
Try feeding it with an MP3 player to find out if you do get the sound or not to narrow down the problem to the monitor or the PC sound problem. If it is in the monitor, it can be bad audio power amp IC, I would rather but a good set of powered PC speakers than spending money on getting the monitor repaired.
you can call ViewSonic Customer Support: 800-688-6688 in the U.S. and 866-463-4775 in Canada, give them your product serial no and they would be able to give you the status on your product warranty.
In case you want to avail the warranty service they would also give you a RMA (Return Material Authorization number) number.
As mentioned on ViewSonic website "ViewSonic LCD computer display products carry a three (3) year limited warranty for parts, labor and LCD backlight. Optiquest products carry a limited warranty of one (1) year for parts, labor and backlight. In order to receive warranty service, proof of purchase of the ViewSonic product is required."
You will need to open it up and inspect the inside. Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, falied inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.
same problem with me.. i posted this problem .. hope i will get an answer.. This happened to me just after the 3 year warranty of monitor expired... If this is some small capacitor kinda problem then we can fix with minor charges.. but if the life of screen itself gone means .. I need to spend a lot of money to get a new one.. any responce is appreciated
Thanks.Have to plug in the cable(green color) - the input is in the backside (center) of the monitor to the the speaker outlet of the cpu. Found this in your tech.support regards. Naveen
Apparently there's a 3 year warranty on the back light of these monitors so you may be able to send it off to viewsonic.
Replacing the back light yourself is certainly possible, depending on how confident you are with taking electronic equipment apart. Sourcing such a replacement may not be easy and might also cost more than the monitor's worth.
If you do proceed, care should certainly be taken so as to not to expose yourself to a dangerous shock; if you're not sure what you're doing then probably best leaving it alone, maybe find a friendly local nerd. Leaving the unit unplugged for 24 hours would be an essential precaution.
It looks like your UP button contact is demaged.
SOLUTION is to insert a piece from your business card mostly above the button to adjust it down or up. It works fine.
