Since I've been playing Lords of Shadow on my 360, I often get the "open tray" message when I turn my system on, even though the game is still in the machine. Once I've ejected a couple of times and wiggled the tray, and maybe let the tray go back in empty and then reinserted the game disc, the game runs fine with no problems. Is this an issue with the game, or is it more likely with my 360? I never saw this problem before playing Lords of Shadow. Are there any easy suggestions for amending this problem? Thanks-Joe

Hi, You can solve that problem by changing out the small Drive Belt. You can find it on Ebay for purchase for as little as $10.00 withouth changing out your whole drive.

i had this same problem, so i figured, "what the hell?" i might as well open the dvd drive up and clean it out. so i looked for how to video for taking apart my 360 and opening the dvd drive on you tube( this voids your warantee of course) and i cleaned all the dust out with compressed air and swabs dipped in alchohol. this worked for me so i hope it works for you.

SOURCE: games wont play. Problems with Disk player

If you don't have the tools to open your 360 go to best buy or an office supply store and get a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the dvd drive. If that doesn't work then the lens needs to be cleaned with a q-tip and alcohol. This has worked for me on numerous occasions.

Discs will NOT read 360 games or movies.

the tapping a button real fast is just a coincident and if it has been awhile since your xbox was opened up you need to clean your eye or in other words your laser it probabaly has dust on it and clean your fans to to prevent future problems and dont place your xbox on the floor as it sucks dust off the floor.if this dont fix the problem and it should though your laser is dead.but i highly doughbt this its unlikely for an xbox your more likely to get the rrod than a dead laser.

Check you have the correct Operating system and that you have the original game. If you are running the game on a machine with Vista or Win 7 you will have problems. Check this link to see if you have the spec required.

The XBox 360 is a wonderful video game console, however, with heavy usage, the laser (and/or other components in the drive) will eventually burn out. The first signs of the laser starting to burn out is that your game will start freezing during game play. Eventually the games will stop reading altogether and you will get an "OPEN TRAY" message when you put a disc in and close the tray. What this means is that the XBox 360 thinks that there is no disc in the system.

My xbox 360 elite keeps on saying open tray even though i have a game in i would open it than it would read for about 2 seconds than say open tray again and i dont want to take it apart to void my warranty

The warranty on the XBox 360 is ONE YEAR. If you have had it for more than a year, there is no more warranty to be void. You can open it.

I turn my 360 on and instead of reading the game, it says "open tray". i open the tray and close it back and i hear 2 clicks and then it says "open tray" again.

My Xbox 360 does that too sometimes. All I usually do is first try turning the disc. If that doesn't work, try an empty tray. If you still get that message after trying again, put in a DVD. That can help. If none of that works, unplug your 360 and leave it for a day. Then try again.
